Everyone knows that if you're going to have unnatural sex, you're supposed to be publicly against it, pay out massive civil settlements as hush money, say that gawd has shown you the way, and cover up for your peers when they are caught doing the same thing.

THAT is religious freedom at work.

I don't know the stats (they probably don't really exist), but while those would be valid objections, I'd have to.believe that would only come up in the most extreme cases. There are straight couples that influence kids in fricked up ways too. It isn't expected to be the norm.

Disagree. I think anyone in a household with out a mother and father is at a disadvantage. It may not be significant and can obviously be overcome, but it isn't ideal. It's the same as single parent households.

It's not about what "other people" do. Granting marriage licenses is something "we" collectively do. If you care about marriage at all, it makes sense to care about this issue one way or another.

Obviously, and my point isn't that gay parents are going to frick up kids. Yes, there are going to be outlier cases like those mentioned where the idiot parents want their child to transition to female as a toddler, but my opposition or hesitation doesn't lie there.

But, in a straight up choice between male-female parents and same sex parents, I think it is objectively better for a child to be adopted into the mixed sex family, all other things being equal.

If same sex marriage is allowed, then religious organizations will be forced to perform those marriages, ie. State of Washington vs. Florist Barronelle Stutzman.

It's none of my business how others marry/don't marry, just stating one of their arguments...

How about kids just being adopted. I'd much rather grow up in a same-sex household than live in a foster home until I'm of legal age.

I swear people in this country are all about faux outrage. As if, gay marriage becoming legal will drive the "traditional family" into extinction.

Some folks are doing their best to make it look like it will:

quote:

A Canberra couple have vowed to get a divorce, ending their "sacred" 10-year union, if Australia allows same-sex couples to legally marry.

Nick Jensen and his wife Sarah believe widening the definition of marriage to include same-sex couples threatens the sacred nature of the union and leaves the door open to polygamy.

The Christian couple have been happily married for over a decade, have no intention of separating and hope to have more children. For all intents and purposes they have a healthy marriage.

But in a novel protest against any successful move to legalise same sex-marriage in Australia, Mr Jensen wrote in an article published in Canberra CityNews on Wednesday that they are prepared to divorce.

"My wife and I, as a matter of conscience, refuse to recognise the government's regulation of marriage if its definition includes the solemnisation of same sex couples,

It'd be awesome if you'd read where I addressed your very fricking point.

Follow the money.

When a husband dies, his wife is entitled to his social security benefits. When a gay man dies, his lover is not.

That changes with the legalization of gay marriage.

I think that would be a point of the rally, is that if you are free to practice your religion, you shouldn't be forced to do something you religiously disagree with. Like the new laws in Ohio or whatever.
