I really have to do this. I've had a really difficult time since my mom passed and it's showing. Vacation next week, then back to the grind.

I post that I'll trust my cardiologist over said "freelance science writer".

Do you seriously not understand that this writer is simply reporting the data that researchers have found? It's not just her opinion that she came up with.

Do you know what a meta-analysis is? It's a comprehensive compilation of dozens of research papers on a specific topic. It's considered the gold standard of evidence in science.

So it's not your doctor's opinion vs this journalist's opinion, or my opinion. It's what your doctor has been told vs the data compiled by thousands of scientists who have committed their careers to studying this specific subject.

I guess in addition to knowing more than my doctors, you likewise know more than the FDA and the American Heart Society as well....

quote:

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recommends that individuals consume no more than 2,300 milligrams of sodium per day, and that certain groups limit intake to 1,500 milligrams per day.

quote:

The American Heart Association recommends no more than 2,300 milligrams (mgs) a day and an ideal limit of no more than 1,500 mg per day for most adults.

Yes darth, those are the guidelines we're referring to

The point is that they were not based on reliable data. Which has been the case numerous times in medicine.

Seriously, what are you babbling about? I would say I will wait around for you to quote me where I said otherwise, but it wouldn't be worth it, because I never did such a thing.

Hope you didn't hurt your hand knocking the shite out of that straw man though.

All because of one article you read on the internet. Now suddenly years of medical and scientific study is now wrong in your eyes.

Well, that settles it. You read it on the internet so it's got to be true. Any why? Because science. It says so right there in the article. They got science. And you can't argue with science. Right?

Darth is more accustomed to copy/pasting articles to pass off as his own posts than he is to reading them.

OP is wrong. But even worse than that, he'll never admit or realize that he's wrong. Nothing can overcome his confirmation bias. In reality, the evidence supporting salt as a contributor to high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, etc. is much greater and more convincing than the evidence against it.

quote:

how little evidence there is of a connection between salt and hypertension, and the related heart diseases
Not true at all. The evidence is overwhelming actually.

Can you post the actual meta-analysis

quote:

vs the data compiled by thousands of scientists who have committed their careers to studying this specific subject.

It was a meta-analysis of 7 studies and 6,250 subjects.

You're overstating what the meta-analysis actually said based on the article.

Also, what about strokes?

But you don't understand. There was an article. And it was on the internet. And they said science. They have science. Don't you know when you read it on the internet and it says science then its got to be true?
