This kid played youth sports and went to school with my son, we know his parents.

No previous signs or trouble with drugs, rumor is bootleg Percocet laced with fentanyl.

message from the school yesterday:

Raider Nation,

It is with deep sadness and the heaviest heart that I inform you of the death of one of our beloved students, he was a junior at our school, and he will be very missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and loved ones during this most difficult time.

Not how I’d start a letter about the death of a student.

OP I'm not going to tell you how to personally handle this, but I would leave the name of the deceased out of the post

Seems like it was already released as public information.

The school sent it to 3500 people and it's all over social media - Francis

But I deleted his name

Kids need it drilled into their fricking heads.

No pills and no powders!!!

shite that grows out the ground probably won't kill you. Stick with those if you must.

I hate hearing about these things. China is evil and their actions flooding the US with fentanyl should be akin to releasing a biological agent.

They learned a thing or two from the Opium Wars and this is their payback

No really airing out other people's business if it was already aired out in a mass email, albeit a school email.

I agree though that OP should redact the name due to being under 18, but also just in bad taste given that anytime a young person passes it's a sad day for the family, community, and america. RIP

No information in that "Raider Nation" statement. The OP heard about the drug overdose from some other source.

The family of the deceased probably doesn't want the drug overdose info getting out.

Respect the deceased.

Parents released the cause of death on social media in a public post, if you search the name.

Overdose death trends have been rising regardless of the party in power.

2022 was 110k. 2023 was 112k.

Id implore you to tell your kid that if any of his other friends or acquaintances have any of the same drugs, they need to trash them or dispose of them immediately.

If there's a bad batch, there will be some more deaths. Happens all the time when a bad batch comes in.
