DENHAM SPRINGS - More than a dozen people were rescued in the Amite River on Saturday, just one week after someone was killed while tubing in the waterway. How do you get stranded while tiki tubing?

Am I missing something here?

Can someone give some context to this? If you miss the exit do you end up in class 5 rapids or some shite?

I said this in the last thread about the person who died

I’m a VERY strong swimmer

And I went tubing and the exit area was off to the left bank. It comes up very abruptly. Right as the river widens, deepens, and picks up speed.

It turns from a muddy lazy river to a deep blue green widened river. And the exit ramp (if this is the same place I went) is a small narrow concrete slippery ramp.

Missing the ramp could easily happen. And could easily make someone panic.

So the issue is the exit is no good and they need to fix the exit location?

There’s a ton of fallen trees underwater that are dangerous with any current . I lost 2 canoes in a row on 2 different trips in similar rivers. Trapped under a log by the current and 3-4 of us still couldn’t pull it free. I learned a new respect for the dangers of underwater currents. Amite River needs to be dredged big time. That’s what also leads to all the flooding.
Also mix in alcohol and for some reason a lot of people that can’t swim and it’s a disaster waiting to happen.

High water..

I heard the local weather guy say the other day "give it another 2 or 3 weeks before you decide to go tubing".

Probably a combination of this and expecting the inflatable tube you floated on for hours to suddenly become a high performance water craft at the last minute.

So there is no one responsible if someone dies? I am assuming there isn't otherwise someone would have sued by now and something would have likely been done to remove those risk.

I asked the same thing. I think it’s considered public river and tiki tubing just rents out the tubes. Not responsible for anyone’s safety.

How do so many people not know how to navigate a 4-way stop?
