The longtime warden of the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola, the state's largest prison and keeper of death row, is resigning amid questions raised by a newspaper about his private real estate dealings.
On Wednesday, Warden Burl Cain said he was stepping down on Jan. 1. In a television interview, he said the decision was "devastating."
In the interview with WAFB-TV, he also reportedly brushed off charges of possible wrongdoing in real estate dealings outlined against him by The Advocate newspaper in Baton Rouge in November. That portion of the interview was to be aired later Wednesday evening, WAFB said.

Hope this doesn't affect the rodeo.

Wow...a few months back people were trying to get him to run for governor. I can't believe how quickly and quietly this escalated.

"What we have here is a failure to communicate."
This guy will live out his days in infamy.

Jindal would make a good warden. Or maybe Eddie Edwards.

The investigation into his real estate dealings by the advocate contributed to this.
Guaranteed.
Guaranteed.

His demise was set in motion during the last election. He pissed in the Republican Cheerios and was left with no team left in his corner. turned allies into enemies and he wasn't gonna stay warden. Could either resign or answer A LOT of questions.

Who cares
Agreed.
He's basically responsible for keeping wild animals in their cage and away from civilized people.

And that's not important? Do any of you know what the prison was like before him?

I still think he's going to have to answer a lot of questions.

I agree. Just may not have as many folks pushing the issue now

Sure he improved it but damn, that was a whole other era. Don't act like its gonna go back to what it was then.

Not saying it will. But the man has done a great job transforming Angola. Not gonna be easy to replace that aspect of it.
Easy to jump on him with all of the allegations. But let's give him some credit for what positive he has done.

There is someone that could step in right now and that place would never skip a beat and he is much more respected
Posted on 12/9/15 at 10:48 pm to FelicianaTigerfan
Who would that be?

Sure he fixed a lot of problems at Angola. It also appears he stole a lot, or at least had a lot of shady side deals.
I'm sure if we get a professional in the spot, the prison will be just fine.
