They vary in their strictness. Some live the traditional lifestyle, others are pretty modern.

They are not against photography; I don't think they like having strangers taking their picture when they are going about their business in their communities by tourists. At least ask first. In this particular case I imagine everything was cool.

Ever seen these guys do a "barn raising?" They'll have a new house built for you in a day and a half; maybe two in this heat!

There are members of a related sect around SWLA, Mennonites or Hutterites, who tend to be not quite as strict. I saw a couple of ladies in their long dresses and white bonnets in the Academy in LC a while back.
