Admittedly, I don't keep up with black culture, but I thought "yo" and "fam" was common parlance these days

I work with several black dudes and constantly mix the names up. No one has expressed any problems to me. I guess it's inadvertently doing what the op is asking. Maybe they think I am racist, I don't know.
