Based on the article, it's nowhere near that simple.

They didn't analyze billions of records for a simple if-statement.

You're assuming they automatically cancel a reservation if all of those conditions are true. Sometimes they do, and sometimes they don't. That's why this is an AI problem.

Here's a more serious question then: what are they doing that's "AI" in the sense that it goes beyond simple statistics? If you have a bunch of variables and you want to build a mathematical model that predicts the value of some other variable ("willHaveParty"), isn't that just a matter for ordinary statistics, like a linear regression model or whatever?

Booked a condo in Fort Morgan for 3 nights. $450 a night, but the Airbnb fees and cleaning fees jacked it up to over $2,000.

And on top of it they’ll have detailed instructions of how to clean up and put the linens in the washroom and take out the trash and set the thermostat. frick that, if I’m paying a cleaning fee they can do that shite

Reading only the first post (not even clicking the link), I have this feeling there's going to be some subtle attempt at implying racism behind this.

***EDIT*** Read the article and...

What are the challenges of using AI for Airbnb?
While AI can be a powerful tool for Airbnb, it also comes with some challenges, such as:

There we go.

I see what you're saying. Technically regression is AI since it's a form of machine learning.

But yeah, you could use regression to solve that problem.

“ The article didn't say it was a simple rules-based system, it said that the algorithms take that data into account to make decisions”

You don’t need AI for this. Everything is programmed using data. You just import it from database environment into whatever object you want to use and intertwine it with your logic.
