I live in a triplex and noticed today that for some reason my AC is acting up. I have it set on 72 and typically have it running at all times unless I'm at work, then I'll turn it off.

However, today it's gotten up to 76 inside the house and I have no clue why. I went outside to check the unit to see if it had frozen up or anything but it had not. But I did notice that they when I was by the unit it would run for a few seconds, then make a noise like it was shutting off, but before it had any time to shut off, it would make the sound like it was firing up again and this would rinse and repeat.

Earlier this summer the unit did have some problems with freezing up, but the place's management company sent a guy out to fix it and he did and it has worked fine ever since.

Anyone have any advice on what it may be?

ETA: The place I live was built less than a year ago, so it's not a shitty unit, at least I don't think it is. who knows.

Tell the mgmt company the compressor is short cycling and will probably burn up if they don't get someone out there now.

It may not be the unit. Your house could be poorly insulated, and the AC can't quite keep up on very hot days.

Keep your blinds closed during the day, and look into getting thermal reflective curtains.

If the place is that new, I would bet that it has a Freon leak in the system somewhere...they will have to come out and find it.

Yeah I already texted my realtor about it. She said she'll see what she can do.

Is this something I can fix, or would a professional need to be called out?
