So evidently every university between College Station and San Francisco missed this, so Texas A&M is being credited with the find.
Pretty cool findings, but seems kinda odd for Texas A&M to be involved... Of course, "odd" describes a whole lot of other things associated with aTm.

A team from Texas A&M University has gathered in the prison's recreation yard, where inmates would have spent as little as an hour a week away from the confines of the main block.
"Much like medical imaging would make a scan of the body, we are making a scan of the ground under the rec yard."
Using this technique, the team has made a remarkable discovery: they have found the remains of a military fortress, which was thought to have been destroyed.

Saw two small mounds that resembled breast while uncovering, decided they would back off on this one.

I was going to MS Paint in a map to the ancient jizz jars of the first Aggies to experience prison sex, but you guys are way better!

Universities do do (hehe...doodoo) research all over the place, not just directly near their campus. Is it odd for LSU to have people doing research in the Amazon?

Not at all... I just certainly would have assumed that a local university that knew the history would have thought to examine the grounds way before now.

I'd imagine it's due to a technology or technique that wasn't previously available.

Cool story
I thought so, too! Despite the fact that I was poking a little fun, it is a really neat find for those researchers and American history buffs
Don't know why my OP got a downvote... but that's fine.
