Each year when I get my physical the doctor asks if I have an advance directive, and rolls his eyes when I say 'no'.

Does anyone have a good argument pro or con?

Do you have any interest in what happens to you should you become unable to make your own medical decisions?

If so, do them, they take a few minutes and make his life easier and the lives easier of your loved ones who will be forced to make those decisions on your behalf and possibly argue and fight with the clinical staff on your treatment / care.

I did this a few years ago

Happy with the decision

It’s an easy form to fill out but I put I didn’t want to be kept alive just to be alive where I needed round the clock care then to just let me go and pull the plug

This way there leaves no doubt

I would. It’s a hot arse mess when you don’t have them.

I had to actively fight with my Dad to sign a DNR for my Mom when she was in hospice (terminal breast cancer that had spread to the brain, bones, liver, stomach, etc). She was adamant that when it reached that point that she did not want to be resuscitated but didn’t have it officially documented. My Dad, in his grief, didn’t want to let her go and tried to fight it.

One of the big pros for me is you prevent your loved ones from having to make difficult decisions. Plus the last thing most people would want is being post anoxic brain injury and the choices end up tearing your family apart when one side wants to try every hail Mary in the book while the other side just wants you to be able to pass.

In general, the younger you are the more difficult it is to do an AD or will.

That’s sad. Heartbreaking to lose your best friend.

You definitely should. Without a doubt. Do not leave it to your family to have to decide what you would want — only you know that.

I’ve taken notes during this thread and plan on writing mine up as such:

“If I no longer have motor control of my appendages and fail to show neurological functions in speech, after a 14-day period, prevent resuscitation. Afterwards, place my body in a FlexSeal casket, tethered to 4 cinderblocks, and drop me off the coast of Argentina.”

Mine says to pull the plug upon the cessation of brain activity or coma boners, whichever is later to occur

My ashes are to be 1/2 infused into a blown glass dildo for me wife to have possession of and 1/2 infused into an obelisk for constant blessing and support.
Not sure about an incense chamber for obelisk yet but maybe.
