Poor sleep for approaching 25 years. Officially sleep apnea but throw in lots of night eating (3 to 4 or more times per week).

...that clips the wings of my workout plan! Hard to out-run night eating.

LONG story short, I am getting to my wits end. CPAP machine, melatonin, no sugar, no caffeine, sunlight, vitamin D...you name it, not worked on consistent basis.

I am now thinking it is time for sleeping pills. I view pills as the last step.

All to say, risk of addition. But, so what? I have to sleep anyways, right.

What is downside risk, will my pecker fall off, get polk-a-dots, or sac shrivel like a raisin? Talk to me.

Start with Ambien. It's relatively safe and not scheduled.

It works for me.

You sleep through your alarm.

I think you are there. I've used them from time to time. I didn't experience any side affects.

Do you happen to take Zantac regularly?

I ask because I used to take it every night based on my docs recommendation and after a few months it caused me severe insomnia, and I had to quit taking it.

I get this from time to time. If I could, I would. This is not a conscious thing. Hard to imagine for some, I know.

That's good advice from Breesus, OP.

ETA: Oh, and lay off the meth for awhile.

First would be to determine why you have sleep issues. Some people are clock reversed, so to speak - they are awake at night, sleepy in the day. As an example.

Work on the cause first. It seems most sleep issues have some root in anxiety (to my knowledge). Maybe there's some underlying concerns or whatever.

I'm not a fan of sleeping pills and I know people that must have them.

Well, there's a couple of good benzos for sleeping.

Restoril, It's very strong.

Pro-som(?) It's weaker and makes me feel like partying.

Oh, and withdrawals from Restoril is fricking horrible.

I've found the problem. You're addicted to night eating.

Are you saying you involuntarily and unconsciously, while asleep, sleep walk to the kitchen and eat and then go back to bed then wake up and cant get back to sleep because youve now eaten?

Ambien will definitely frick you up sometimes.

Sleep walking, doing things you dont remember, not waking up to an alarm, etc...

I've had sleep issues for about a year and a half.

Doctor prescribed ambien, and it worked but I started to get some really rough side effects (like daytime drowsiness, headaches)

I went to a sleep specialist and he switched me to Lunesta which is much more subtle and has virtually no hangover feeling the next day.

I went from taking 2 ambien a night to averaging a pill or a half pill of lunesta. I'm slowly trying to withdraw from it, but it is tougher than I expected. Some nights I just feel like I need it.

Try magnesium, too. It's well known to help with sleep / anxiety issues and I've noticed that when I take it that there is a difference...

My ex gf woke up several times sitting in her car in the garage. She has no idea if she drove or not.
