Did you use a Tutor or Prep class to help your kid prepare for or increase their score on the ACT? If so can you give specifics and did it help? Any other methods to help kids get better on ACT? Just giving practice book to read on their own will not do it.

Heard SJA has a good review course. Anyone recommend a tutor that really helped their child?

They should take it twice a year starting in 9th grade. And go to 2 or so prep classes that you find out about.

For many stidents, a good score is a combination of practice by doing it, slowing down for reading comprehension, knowledge and test design strategy that the class will help make them aware of.

If your kid needs help with the act you should pick them up some brochures for trade schools

Literally the easiest test I've ever taken

The best thing to do is get the practice exam on the computer and go through it at the time they will end up taking it during the day. Maximize your score by being prepared. The practice exams break down what you're missing...look at those concepts and realistically decide which ones you can develop.

a friend of mine hired one and his son's score went up 3 points. they only focused on his strengths and ignored the rest.

This. I did this with both the ACT and CPA. Got a 29 on the ACT. Passed 3 parts of the CPA before moving and deciding to not take the 4th part.

"Seeing" the test and its format is a huge part of passing. Usually the knowledge is already in your head, and knowing what to expect the test to look like helps a lot. Good luck to your kid!

I took it untimed and actually scored lower than when I took it timed, if that helps.

I tutored ACT for a couple years, with mixed results. I had one kid go up 7 points, mostly because his baseline was so low. They can usually go up 2 or 3 points without anything groundbreaking.

As another post said, the best results come from repetition and learning from mistakes - just like anything else. You can't just take the test 9 times and expect to improve. You have to look at what the weak points are and focus on improving what you can.

That being said, it isn't easy. Good luck
