I'm entering my junior year at LSU, and I came across this article that states Southern is a national leader in landing government jobs which is what I am interested in. I know that LSU is a highly regarded law school in Louisiana, but should I seriously consider Southern even if I get accepted into LSU?

With your JD you can demand higher pay working a government job. Not many Southern students pass the bar, and you don't need to pass the bar to demand higher pay with a graduate degree.

There are too many lawyers in this country. Do yourself a favor and avoid the aggrevation and just go be an operator and make a $100K with just watching a monitor, talking sports all day, and stuffing your face with food for 12 hours a day.

To be fair, the EBR DA's office is populated with almost exclusively Southern grads.

But to address the OP... I can't say "frick no" enough to the notion of going to Southern if you've been accepted to LSU. Just... no.

True story, I was rejected by Southern, but accepted by LSU.

The only school I got rejected by was Temple, which was also the lowest school I applied to by far.

For OP, what type of government job do you want? Fed certainly doesn't give preference to low ranked schools, although depending on agency they do totally ignore rankings at times.

Nothing against Southern Law School, but just the fact that you asked this question leads me to believe you don't have the intelligence to be a lawyer.

I was hoping for an ADA position out of law school. Do DA's even often hire people straight out of law school or no?

Yeah, but honestly it varies so much by area that it's hard to give guidance. I know a couple of people who went straight to the DA's office out of law school, and a couple who moved over after 1-2 years.

For the suburban/affluent counties, those people finished well but not at the top of their class (top thirdish).

For those I know in the more urban counties, they're mostly minority students who didn't do very well GPA wise but had some advocacy accomplishments.

In sum, I don't think you should deviate from the general rule of going to the very best law school you can make work financially. Additional advice would be to do advocacy and try and make local public sector connections within the respective regions you'd be looking for a job.

Setting the bar pretty high there.

ETA: Let's be real here. I have more than a couple friends that went to Southern and passed the bar their first time. Many are making more money than me. But they aren't ADAs. They are very smart people that took their opportunity and ran with it.

Costs being the same, go to LSU.
