Wait, so the CIA made the news media, of all people, privy to the conspiracy by, what, sending out early press releases to tip off the press that it's a government conspiracy? Why would they do that? There was no need to tip off the press that the Trade Center was going to be hit and all that would accomplish is handing the what would be the story of the century to hundreds of literally the last people you would trust to be quiet.

Yes, because demolishing building 7 much later in the day was the essential component to convincing the country to get behind a war effort in retaliation. The hijacking of airliners and crashing them into the WTC and Pentagon just didn't seem like enough in the plot.

Here's the deal. It's true that intelligence operations are compartmentalized. But what that means is, you deliver a package to location X and are never told what it was or why. Or you let someone stay in your vavant condo, but aren't told who he really was or why or who he worked for. You can't compartmentalize dozens of guys having to wire an occupied major skycraper full of explosives, especially once they see the outcome. That's not how compartmentalization works. That's way too many guys who knew what they were doing to believe that nobody would talk and it's too many to kill without raising suspicions or several catching on and going public.

Have you never watched a major event break live? Misinformation is routine. Most likely, an initial source told them the collapse was imminent, and in the HOLY shite WTF IS GOING ON flurry in the newsroom it was misreported and then picked up by other outlets.
