The attorneys, who ran a firm called Prenda Law, would use shell companies to buy up copyrights for pornographic movies, then upload those movies to file-sharing websites such as Pirate Bay, where they would monitor who downloaded them. In many cases, the attorneys would send threatening cease-and-desist letters to users who downloaded the films, accusing them of copyright infringement and offering to settle cases for about $4,000, according to court documents.

Why would you download the whole movie when you only need the 2 minute clips from Redtube, Xtube or any number of free sites?

Why would Shell get into money making off porn?
Do they not make enough in the oil business?

I wonder how the idea came to them.
Maybe sitting around and someone shot off their mouth about taking problems into their own hands? Thought maybe they could jerk some guys in line? Then sent letters telling the guys to nut up and pay for the mess?

i remember getting an email from some Old jewish lawyer about a movie i dloaded. It was ,"Best of Christy Canyon".

Since i owned the original movie in vhs form, i can dload the movie legally.

So i told him to kindly take that beanie off his head and shove it up his arse. He never responded, he knew i wasn't playing his game.

And we were talking about a 15+ year old movie at the time.

Charter communications turns ur arse in, they don't protect their users. Any letter they get, they send that company ur info immediately. ATT used to protect their subscribers.

Just curious, how is this any different than the bait cars the police use or the police dressing up their own female officers & sending them out to catch johns? They owned the copyrights & people illegally downloaded the content. Underhanded yes, but a crime? The blackmail part yes, but other than that?

Who downloads a movie? I don't think I've ever watched a porn from beginning to end. I've got 90 minute vhs tapes where 70 minutes of it have never been contacted by a tape head at normal speed.
