Just a sad sad thing.
If any of us were charged with that we would lose our jobs, our careers and life.. Generally rightfully so, especially when you have images of naked kids on your phone or computer.

In the last 12 months, more than a half-dozen officers with the New Orleans Police Department have been booked and charged with various crimes.
Watch report
In many of those cases, the officers are placed on what the NOPD refers to as "emergency suspension without pay."
But the WDSU I-Team has learned that type of suspension only lasts so long and some officers charged with serious crimes are back on the job working -- much to the surprise of some.

What happens to a citizen when hundreds of images of child pornography are found on their computer and phone? Well, if you are a law enforcement officer, the answer is, nothing.
An investigation into the New Orleans Police Department has revealed a disturbing lack of discipline for individuals who’ve been caught and accused of despicable acts.
The residents of a Mandeville neighborhood felt safe knowing that a 16-year veteran of the NOPD, Sgt Bradley Wax lived down their street. However, that would quickly change after Wax was arrested and charged with 38 counts of possessing child pornography.
The Louisiana Attorney General’s office conducted a search on Wax’s personal computer and other electronic devices and found them to be full of explicit photos of young children.
He was obviously fired immediately and not allowed to be a cop any longer, right? Or at the very least he was suspended until the trial, right? Wrong.
WDSU, who carried out the independent investigation, found that Wax was initially suspended but has since returned to work as normal, working in fleet management at the NOPD headquarters.

NOPD Officer Michael Thomassie was another one. Thomassie was accused and arrested on charges of aggravated rape over a year ago. However, when WDSU investigators went to New Orlean’s 4th district, they found Thomassie currently still working as a cop.
While these officers were initially suspended, as soon as the spotlight moved on, they were silently allowed back across the blue line.

Apparently it takes the NOPD more than a year to conduct and investigation and find guilt in a man whose iPhone was a pedophile’s paradise.
Of course, everyone, even the vilest of criminals deserves the right to due process. But the double standard here is where the issue arises.
These people claim the responsibility of upholding the law. When they are the ones suspected of violating that law, they should be held to a much higher standard, not a lower one.

I wonder if the defenders will take up for them..
"well innocent until proven guilty.."
Most likely they will just avoid this and hope it's slid on to the third page before the Lunch thread.

What???
Nothing to see here?
You are fine with people who rape and have pictures of kids still possessing a badge and the right to inflict justice on others?
Sad thing is, one of these cops could of raped someone's daughter, then arrested the dad for smoking a joint to deal with the stress. Dad could still be in jail, while the cop is out spanking it to pictures of toddlers.
I mean. Child molestors, pornographers and rapists need to be punished worse than the law allows.
You want to keep them with pay? Okay, but allow them to return to work?
Hell no.
What's odd is, a cop with drugs or drunk driving charges is fired immediately, but these cops are still cops.
There is a lot to see here, and it's time to make some heads roll.

Accused. Desk duty. Civil service rules.
They will go to jail for a long time if convicted, as they should.
ETA: Not fired if drunk driving or drugs as you stated.

Bradley Wax, 54, was arrested and charged with 38 counts of possessing child pornography.
When Wax was arrested, the Louisiana Attorney General's Office said investigators found pornographic images of children on computers and other electronic devices.
Because of the nature of the crime -- and the number of counts filed -- Wax faces a worst-case scenario of more than 500 years behind bars if he's convicted. The NOPD wasted no time in announcing that Wax had been placed on emergency suspension without pay back in April of 2014.
Twelve months later, the I-Team found Wax on the job working in fleet management at NOPD headquarters in Mid-City.
That is fricking disgraceful.

It shouldn't be taking anywhere near this long to deal with this issue.

bullshite. I have a Civil Service job and know for a fact people that have been fired immediately upon being arrested because a department does its own investigation before calling the cops. The difference between what I have seen and these pedophiles is they didn't have the luxury of being cops.

I'm kinda shocked this isn't a bigger deal. The guy who killed those ducks drew far more outrage.

This must be how hard working, successful black people feel when watching the Baltimore riots. "Quit making us look bad assholes!"
