I didn't see it until after the fact but I don't see how some of his closer friends or relatives missed it.

Friend of mine many years ago ate a jar of poison and called me on the phone. We talked for about 20 minutes before he died. He wanted to go, didn't want to be saved, just wanted to say goodbye.

Sad thing but there were things in his life that could not change and he had his reasons. Strangely I feel like I'm honored that he called me. We talked and he just went to sleep. That is when I called it in. He was in Mew Mexico and I was in Florida at the time. Great guy.

What's his outlook look like if he took a whole bottle of blood pressure medicine?

Very low blood pressure.

tried to kill himself

This is not a thing. It's very, very easy to kill oneself - and foolproof. If you want to kill yourself, you kill yourself. Simple.

If you want to hurt yourself or get pity or get attention or get moved to the front of the psychiatric line (to get the help you truly need), you "try" to kill yourself by immediately posting on Facebook or sending 100 text messages about your non-life threatening suicide "attempt."

ETA: Your friend will almost certainly be fine from a medical standpoint. But he's probably in for a lengthy inpatient psychiatry stay. Which he needs.

This. Most who don't want help don't post about it on facebook. Thank God he did post about it and OP saw it.

I hope your friend gets some help and realizes there are reasons to keep going.

Try to look at the bright side, if he posted this on Facebook he obviously was making a veiled attempt to reach out for help.. if he makes it through this he might be able to get the help he needs and this whole situation could change his life for the better

ETA - didn't realize half the thread already said this. Hope it works out man, drink a beer or two, I'm sure this probably fricked you up a little

sorry to hear about your friend's condition...hope he gets the right help and comes out of this in a lot better place.

unfortunately, in my experience, people who do this kind of thing generally repeat it in the future...you have to protect yourself by not taking too much ownership in the whole matter. do what you can to help, but don't let him take you down with him.

People that try and kill themselves by taking pills don't really wanna die.

Those of us who have worked in ER know better.

I've seen a lot people die from taking pills. Only a few of them were "upset" to find they were successful. Yeah, the "wrong" pills leave ya to suffer an agonizing end the taker is very aware of too. Cascading organ failures can be quite painful and can be a prolonged experience depending on how aggressively treated.
