Working on my FIL's central A/C compressor. It did go under water (not the fan motor). It ran the day after the water went down. My FIL shut it down and it would not come back on. One of the two capacitors did go under water. it was bad and I replaced it today. The other tested out OK. The contacts do pull in, and I do have 240v on the back side of the contacts.

I am at a dead end. There are NO A/C guys to be found in BR for at least 4 days.

It's a more powerful capacitor booster basically. About 50$

Stupid question

Can you wire a capacitor up backwards? Both caps only have two term spots. I see no markings identifying certain spots. Could I have the caps wire backwards?

Does the unit even make a humming noise when the contactor pulls shut?

Good luck with it. And let me know if that doesn't work.
