Yeah when he comes out I'm going to start doing the routine checkups. It's too good of a deal to pass on.

Freon 22 has gone up over 30% cost this year already!!
Call around to get a quote per pound before they come out.
Probably going to pay $100 per pound plus service call. Do not call on a weekend or you will really get screwed!!
You have to trust the mechanic because he can put 3 pounds in and charge you for 5. This is a known scam so ask them to weigh in it and watch him.

Where dou you live?? Might be able to recommend someone!!

Freon 22 will be completely out of production by 2020 unless Trump comes to the rescue.
Meaning you wouldn't be able to add replacement 22 to an AC system so you will have to convert and buy a new 410A system!!

An AC system will ice up when it loses roughly half its freon charge. So you will probably need from 3-6 ponds of freon 22. Make the tech weigh it in to be accurate and you will likely be paying anywhere from $400-$700 for this fix. But if he doesn't find and fix the leak, you will be faced with this same issue again!!!

Baton Rouge.

UPDATE: After the ice started coming back last night, I turned the system off and the fan on. Left it like this for a little over three hours to give any unseen ice time to melt. Turned it down before heading to bed. Got up in the middle of the night and the thermostat was still showing a good temp. Got up this morning and temp is still good and there is zero ice buildup on the outdoor or indoor coils. Hope all is good but I'll be watching it closely.

Thanks again for everyone's help. I really appreciate it.

If you are low in freon, the longer the unit runs, it will ice up again. As soon as you see ice, turn unit off.

Could be a freon leak. Happened at my house over the summer, couldn't get the house below 75° no matter how much we tried.
