Any clue what might cause my ac to randomly quit cooling, but after restarting, works fine.

Dirty coils.
Head pressure builds.
Compressor cuts off, cools down then can restart?
New info above makes me concur with changing the capacitors or the fan motor is going out. Acme Refrigeration will have parts if you need them sooner than Amazon.
Take pics before taking then off. Run a screwdriver across all the capacitor leads, shorting them out or your could give yourself a nice pop.

Run-start capacitor. Buy on Amazon for $20, replace.

Edit: Find somewhere local that sells them asap and try this out before calling someone. It will cost you $150-200 to call someone and takes 5 minutes to replace.

What makes America great again is the ability to hate you for your shameless ad.

Like many said here. The run start capacitor was my fix. Same issue. Take a screw driver and flip the fan. If it starts up it is no doubt the run capacitor. I replaced mine for 9 bucks.

Like the said probably a capacitor, could have had ants get in your contactor, it's a switch for what ever reason ants are attached to it. You can cut off the power make sure the contactor isn't dirty. Turn on power and get something to press in the contactor and see if the fan comes on.

Capacitor, simple 3 wire change. Replaced mine last spring for about $40. Purchased it at an a/c business off of Eden park Rd....

Check your fan outside first

AC man was here for the last 2 days. Outside unit turning off then when we would reset the breaker it would turn back on again for a time only to shut off. It was the capacitor. 4 year old Amana system. Replaced capacitor this morning and it has ran fine all day.

Had that issue a while back, AC man showed me how a bad capacitor tends to have a buldge after failing. Cost me almost 300 to learn that leason, but now I know.

Pray it's a capacitor and not a shot compressor
