I was in 8th grade french class. Teacher told us that there had been a plane that crashed into the World Trade Center in NYC . I had no idea what the WTC was , or what it looked like , so I imagined a small prop plane crashing into a small building .
After the next plane hit , parents were coming up to school to get there kids out of school. My mom was one of those parents to come get me and my sister . Went home and watched the news with my parents . We then went up to our church and they pastor had the news on a big projector screen and everyone was watching and praying .
I'm 29 now , and still cant believe terrorists were able to hijack four planes and crash them. I read a documentary where fighter jets were scrambled to intercept the second plane that crashed into the WTC , but they couldn't reach it in time.
I have to believe that God took those innocent souls of the jumpers , and the victims that couldn't escape before any pain was felt.
frick Islam.

I slept with my TV on that night, woke up to the news being on right after the first one hit. Thought I was seeing a movie or something. Then the second one hit, very surreal realizing what went on. Drove to class and it was cancelled so I went back home and watched the news all day.

I was in 7th or 8th grade. I did the same thing I did most days. Go to school, come home and watch TV. Didn't really affect me.

I was in my 2nd grade class, just chillin, doing whatever it is 2nd graders do. Somebody came in and told my teacher what had happened and when she told us I remember thinking "wtf is the World Trade Center."
My mom was a teacher at the school I was going to, we usually left at like 4:30-5 in the afternoon, we all left as soon as school let out that day and went and got my brother from his middle school and went straight home.
I remember thinking how weird it was that my dad was home so early that day, when we got to the house he explained to us what WTC was and the Pentagon as well. It was a pretty quiet house that evening compared to most others.

Woke up, saw headline that we were at war and new York burning. Thinking it wss a nuke i went to get supplies. After spending every dollar I had on water, food and gas, I saw again it was an attack, not war.
Then sat in front of the TV for three days.

Senior year of HS. I worked in the library 1st period and my first task of the morning was to put Channel One on for the entire school to watch.
The VP came in and asked me if I could get CNN to play on all the TVs instead of Channel One, but I had no idea how to do that. I just put a tape in for Channel One. So she left without saying anything.
I didn't know what had happened until I went to 2nd period (World History) and we watched the local news. The 1st tower had just collapsed and my teacher told us all to remember this moment.
We didn't leave that class all day. Nobody did. We all just sat there and watched the news all day.
I don't think we had class for 3 days.

I had worked the night before at OLOL. Got home and promptly fell asleep. Was asleep for maybe an hour and then was frantically shaken awake by my bf when the first plane crashed in the WTC tower. I spent my next two days on my couch watching all the 9/11 coverage on the tv(I happened to be off for 2 days).

What were you doing when you first learned of what happened?
It was my first year of college at LSU. Didn't have classes that morning, I don't believe, but I had work. Heard about the first crash on the radio during my drive in, and like many have already said I thought it was a small plane that hit the first Tower.
When I got to work, my boss asked if heard about the plane, and I replied in the affirmative stating my thoughts on what an idiot that pilot must have been. She said something along the lines of: "no, a second plane hit and they were passenger planes."
We all sort of had this nervous anticipation the rest of the day as we kept up with the news until heading to class (or home), can't quite remember if we had a tv going or not.

7th grade English. I'll never forget that day and the ones that followed.

I was on the tollway in Dallas on the way to work. Wife called and said a plane hit the WTC, then while we were on the phone another hit. My company had an office in the WTC.. Got into work, everyone was congregating around the TV in the lobby in shock. I had a weekly forecast meeting with management I had to step into, the manager leading the meeting acted like nothing was happening and proceeded to cover each and every sales reps forecast. One rep who dialed in kept giving us updates on what was going on, like when the first bldg collapsed, but this manager would tell her to stay focused on the meeting. I kept looking out the window expecting to see WWIII. I still run into that manager every now and again & all I can think of is that meeting on 9/11/01. It was truly the most depressing day I have ever experienced (my parents flooding last year might equal that).
All our people in the WTC got out, but one of our execs was on the plane that hit it. There’s a memorial for him at my company's campus in Santa Clara, CA.

Just started my senior year of high school.

I was in 8th grade, on my way to a technology class when I overheard one of our teachers say something in regards to a plane crashing into the WTC. Like many others, I thought nothing of it, figured it was a small private jet, and went on about my day. When I got to class, my teacher was sitting by the TV with a look of absolute horror on his face. He wasn't the type of person to show emotion, always had a poker face on so I knew at that point that shite was real. Nothing was done at school for the rest of the day except watch TV and discuss what was going on. A couple of my classmates were worried as they had parents that worked in government buildings downtown, and family in the military. 9/11/2001 and 8/29/2005 are 2 dates that I will never forget what exactly I was doing.

Keesler AFB. I was 13 years old.
Base went into lockdown. Never been the same since getting on or off military installations.
Decided I wanted to follow in my dad's footsteps and serve my country after that day.

It was my senior year at LSU....semester 7. For my last 4-5 semesters at LSU I was able to schedule only 2 classes on T/TH and they were all after lunch.
That allowed us to pretty much drink like crazy on Monday night...which we did that night. I woke up hungover after the 1st plane hit and it was on my radio in my room. I walked down the stairs and while I was walking down I watched the 2nd plane hit the south tower....my roommate was sitting in the living room and we pretty much sat there all day and didn't leave. Like everyone else we were basically wondering all day what was going to happen next.
It was a surreal thing that I'll never forget.
