It's not sacred ground.
Its the site of mass death and is a defacto cemetery for the ones never found.

How is $24 ridiculous?
Most museum prices are around $20 it seems.
Same for zoos, exhibits, etc

Curious: were these people complaining when others profited from selling 9/11 related items?

$24 to get into something paid for with tax dollars is ridiculous. If it was a private enterprise, then I would say charge what you want and let Free Enterprise rule.
Of course, we are in the era of government managed healthcare (ahem, nurse) so I guess I shouldn't be the least bit surprised that this is accepted... InB4poliboard...

Would you rather they pay the bills with more of your tax dollars?

I would like to buy a Katrina snow globe. You know, shake it and shite flies around the water in rememberance.
Anyone know where I could find one?

This is a bit different than the average museum or zoo.

I am a little curious who the target audience is. there are probably a thousand museums I'd rather visit.
I'm sorry, but if you're going to make this claim you need to name the 1000 other museums...if you can.

Okay, but I still don't consider it sacred ground.
I'm not certain it is or isnt? so tell me why it isnt?

Yeah I've been to Auschwitz. Definitely no gift shop. I think the idea that the concentration camps are largely in tact makes the idea of selling something there less tolerable. A museum feels different but I still understand it feeling dirty.

I have to downvote that.

Does Pearl Harbor have a gift shop? I'd imagine it does.
