Bonnie Elizabeth Parker (October 1, 1910 – May 23, 1934) and Clyde Chestnut Barrow a.k.a. Clyde Champion Barrow[1] (March 24, 1909 – May 23, 1934) were American criminals who traveled the central United States with their gang during the Great Depression, robbing and killing people. At times, the gang included Clyde's older brother Buck Barrow and his wife Blanche, Raymond Hamilton, W. D. Jones, Joe Palmer, Ralph Fults, and Henry Methvin. Their exploits captured the attention of the American public during the "Public Enemy Era", between 1931 and 1935. Though known today for his dozen-or-so bank robberies, Barrow preferred to rob small stores or rural gas stations. The gang is believed to have killed at least nine police officers and several civilians. The couple were eventually ambushed and killed by law officers near the town of Sailes, in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. Their reputation was revived and cemented in American pop folklore by Arthur Penn's 1967 film Bonnie and Clyde,[2] in which they were played by Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty.

quote:

Barrow and Parker were ambushed and killed on May 23, 1934, on a rural road in Bienville Parish, Louisiana.[79][106] The couple appeared in daylight in an automobile and were shot by a posse of four Texas officers (Frank Hamer, B.M. "Manny" Gault, Bob Alcorn, and Ted Hinton) and two Louisiana officers (Henderson Jordan and Prentiss Morel Oakley).

To this day (as far as I know it's been 7 yrs or so since I've seen it) they still have a bullet riddled piece of Clyde's old vest hanging on the wall at the sheriff's office in Arcadia.

That entire period of American history and law enforcement fascinate me.

They were essentially ambushed.

I read Baby Face Nelson was chased out of his hideout and shot in the back. Then stood over him and put one in his head.

It was like the country had had enough. They stopped trying to catch these guys. Just killed them.

The outcry today would be outrageous.

You really think that if a felonious murderer got shot in the back of the head today by an L.E.O., there would be outrage? That's an odd opinion.

Well Ferguson, MO was ransacked not long ago. Course the guy had not committed a felony murder. But he did die trying.

Not saying I agree. Just the world we live in. A suspect shot in back of the head? In a non hostage situation? And the suspect is not first to fire or pointing a weapon at officers or civilians?

Closest was the guy in California a few years back. They caught him after he killed a couple sheriffs deputies or CHP guys? He was an officer too I believe. Had him in some log cabin pinned down. They said frick it and lit that bitch on fire. Still vague about details after it happened.

I see that point. Death sentence.without a trial if you will.

But they were self proclaimed murderers.

Today, cops would be fired and riots ensue (actually no riots since.they were white)

Just saying that almost anytime a cop kills someone nowadays there's going to be an outcry, no matter the circumstances.

You think if they would have shot Derrick Todd Lee in the back, then stood over him and blasted his head off with a shotgun, there would have been a outcry from more than 10 people?

No. A known murderer that was responsible for the death of 3 FBI agents.

Exactly, and there was little outrage over that. Sure, there was the sect of people who were rooting for him(as there were with Bonnie and Clyde) but I don't believe anyone protested or anything like that over them lighting his arse on fire.

True. And we are talking about a societal shift in attitude. Or at least with law enforcement. Several gangsters of that period were killed in scenarios that today would be pissed and moaned about.

Few decades later but the UT clock tower shooter was pinned down with gun store borrowed weapons and shot by a cop who was able to sneak up on him. And again, if stories are true the cop that shot him stood over him and put one more in his head to end it. Can you imagine today? A CNN chopper circling over an Austin PD guy who downs a suspect and they catch the moment he puts one in his head?

Not saying I would be outraged, but it would be a cluster frick.

Come on man, they showed on live tv those FBI agents in Cali making a suspect a human rotisserie chicken, and there was no "clusterfrick."
