No chance. We have all seen the videos and there wasn't any wave close to that height. It was a terrible tragedy, like the 2004 Christmas Eve one for Thailand, Sumatra, India and Sri Lanka.

Instead of just dismissing it straight up, do a five second search and read about it.

Japanese tsunami stood at 132.5ft The tsunami that struck north-east Japan in March rose to a maximum height of 132.5ft, according to researchers, taller than Rio's Christ the Redeemer.

The experts collected data from 5,400 locations the length of the east coast of Japan after the magnitude 9.0 undersea earthquake. The survey used marks left on buildings and trees that rise up the sides of the valley where the town is located to reach a conclusion on the scale of the disaster.

i wish there were some images of this. sounds incredible from the wiki.

A boat anchored in the bay actually survived. Trees 600 feet up the incline were decimated.

Canary Islands are the next spot for a mega tsunami. Big if, but if the La Cubra Vieja volcano erupts and causes a massive landslide, the East Coast of the US is so fricked.

Goddamnit, it was caused by aerosol spray cans and styrofoam plates.
No it wasn't either of those. It was the Chinese. Billions and billions of people on that side of the world causing the earth to squish and play havoc with tectonic plates. Yeah, that's it. That's the ticket!

He's right..
Run up height isn't the same as pure wave height. It's not even the same concept.

There wasn't a 126 foot wave, not even close. Ocean born tsunamis are directly proportional to the displacement of the fracture that occurs on the sea bed. It sucked to be there, but it didn't cause that. Perhaps in a shallow bay with high walls, but it wasn't a mega tsunami like caused in Lituya Bay or after the eruption of Krakatoa in the 1880's.

No shite! If a 126 foot wave had hit Japan we wouldn't have Japan anymore!

if I remember my physical oceanography class in college, a wave begins to crest once it's wavelength reaches 1/7 of the depth of the water column. So all you have to do is figure out the wavelength, then go find the depth of the water column.

Then you could see how high the wave was...

of course I might have remembered everything wrong...that class was a long time ago
