Eight people, including two children, were found dead Sunday morning inside a tractor-trailer in the parking lot of a Walmart store in San Antonio, according to reports.

quote:

The driver of the rig, who was not identified, has been taken into custody, authorities said. A total of 38 people had been inside the trailer, authorities said, with 20 people found in a “serious” medical condition, including dehydration. Further details were not immediately available. Investigators from the U.S. Department of Homeland security were involved in the case. KENS5 in San Antonio reported that someone had alerted the Walmart store manager that possible illegal immigrants were inside the trailer.

This story goes beyond how many illegal immigrants get through. It is a tragedy in the loss of human life.

Sad, but had these people come into the country legally this would not have happened. Sad but true.

These people aren't getting into the country legally. There is no way. Many are fleeing horrible conditions in their own country and are desperate.

I agree that they shouldn't come here illegally. They should stay where they are or flee within their own country or go somewhere else, if they can. I don't fault anyone for trying to better their situation. But, they can't come here illegally. I get that.

However, acting like they had a choice to come either legally or illegally is ill informed. There is no way for these kinds of people to just come here legally. If there was, they would do it.

Authorities were first alerted by a store employee who called the police after being approached by someone from the truck who was asking for water.

“Late last night we got a call from a Walmart employee about a welfare check in a tractor-trailer that was parked in the lot here,” Police Chief William McManus said.

According to police, surveillance video from the store showed "a number of vehicles" picking up people who survived the trip that were inside the trailer.

Some people fled into the woods, and police will conduct another search in the morning, the chief said.

possible

I'm not sure this word was necessary.

Everyone knows it was illegal immigrants, especially in Texas near the border.
What a shame.
Is life really that bad in Mexico / Central America that you're willing to get into a packed trailer and head into the US?
We don't realize how good we have it here.

My question is: how did a trailer full of illegals get into the country in the first place?

Or did mules get them across to meet the trailer later?

Bad situation all around.

If we weren't a welfare state, most of them would not come. From there, the ones that do come would be assets to our country because they have come to work and pay taxes. If you yank out the welcome mat (entitlements) immigration is manageable and good.

Sure there is. It's a long process though which many don't like.
