very sad, and regardless of the evidence/lack of evidence/racism of the jury, unfortunately, in these times, the race card is played by legal defense teams, and others, that would have us believe that this still goes on today

He was 22, the maid was 16, and it was 1924 Edgefield, SC. Maybe she was hot for him, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have mattered if she wasn't.
At least Strom gave her some financial support, even if it was probably just hush money. My BIL once told me that Strom's black daughter was the worst kept secret in SC.
