I recommend that anyone with any interest in history read about this time period. It is fascinating.

Gandhi, Jinnah, and Nehru

The population transfer and violence between the Hindus, Sikhs, and Muslims that happened was just insane. Estimates say up to 2 million may have died.

Article with family stories on experiences during the violence of the Partition -- very interesting

Gandhi looks like he's wearing the fake glasses/nose/mustache disguise.

Divide and Rule policy was the most divious plot by the british. Families got seperated by the rule. Children got lost. There were some that got left behind.

I have no respect for British empire

Both countries would be much better off as british territories

The UK did good to rid itself of them

India still has highest muslim population than pakistan. Not all muslims wanted to go. It was forced by Jinnah's ambition

It is hard to imagine just how crushed Gandhi was to witness all of this.

I want to read up more on Muhammad Jinnah because he was "the man" when it came to the formation of a separate Pakistan. He was a tough guy to deal with it seems.

naw

that's where UK's wealth came from

everybody was better off under the old system

and the british empire made possible the golden age of travel. anywhere you went you dealt with british officials instead of locals looking for bakshish -- or maybe to arrest you as infidels

Really. The british empire called India as their crown jewel. British empire gained more from India than anyother territory.

It's not but it is real close.

#1- Indonesia (222 million Muslims)

#2- Pakistan (195 million Muslims)

#3 – India (183 million of Muslims)

But Pakistan is 95-97 % islamic. India is in the teens
