Doesn't sound/look half bad. Heres to it getting off the ground.

I have a friend whos buddy and a team of investors were looking to turn TwiRoPA and the surrounding grounds around it in a studio. Would be nice to get that place rehabbed and encourage more development along that corridor. It couldn't make its way off the 'artist's rendering' boards. :IK,CSB

True, there's always that possibility but I believe they've already "broke ground" according to their site

Riverside of Opelousas Ave? If so, let's talk. About to head to bed, but I'll check back in the A.M.

This is all based upon tax credits given by the Louisiana Legislature.

It's a subsidized business.

It works until the legislature takes it away, or until another state offers a better deal. Then what?

Tax credits aren't subsidies

The state isn't paying them to be here.

That's an awful lot of EB5 guys to round up for one project. Does anyone know who ones the EB5 "center" in Louisiana that is theoretically being used for this?
There is a major redevelopment on Canal Street currently with EB5 funding that dwarfs that. EB5 will not be a bar to this studio project.

That's incredibly cheap of a "cost" to have a more active film industry than Hollywood.

And they are continually relocating/adding more assets, adding permanent long term jobs here.

I can damn well promise that they have injected far more than that in out of state money into the economy.

The problem is that those economic benefits are indirect and thus harder to gauge. As a just one for instance, your link doesn't factor in income tax revenues from created jobs. It just assumes we would have gotten that anyway.

Well, it's all good until another state offers a better deal and then it's gone.

True, but there is a certain degree of momentum here.

This is in an thread where they dropped more than 60 million in a non mobile investment. And there are a LOT of stories like this.

They aren't going to pick up and leave if another state offers something slightly better

Lost taxes doesn't mean the state paid them.

Either way the state loses 170 mil in taxes because without the tax credits there is no industry. With the tax credits film industry pays very little taxes.

The people who work the industry pay income taxes, and sales tax.

Then what are they? If I tell you that I will give you something worth between $297.50 and $350.00 if you spend $1,000.00, haven't I subsidized that much of your spending? You are getting $1,000.00 worth of value at a cost of between $650.00 and $702.50.

The state guarantees that it will buy the credits from the businesses for $0.85 on the dollar. So the state is paying them to be here with other taxpayers' money.

Everyone cites "jobs created" but, after having the "
Pitch Perfect film production camp in my neighborhood for a week I disagree. I talked to a ton of the crew and staff and none of them are from here. They are all in town during the filming and then scatter back to their homes. The only LA folks were the extras and a few contractors doing the low paid hourly jobs (i.e. Traffic control) which causes me to question the self-serving job claims that come from industry and political sources. I need to see a figure from an independent source before I swallow the bait in the future.

That is all assuming the state is entitled to that money. Good looking at by hollywood to save their money and just maybe a real industry may come out of it (Deep South Studios)

I assume you pay the maximum amount of your income to uncle Sam every April.
