Maybe the teachers that got laid off should apply in Allen, sounds like they're growing.

If it's a lump sum contract, the contractor is required to have a 3rd party testing firm. The owner will usually have a 4th party, if they don't have qualified personal to oversee the project. Rebar inspection, etc is on the contractor. Cylinder testing is on the contractor. These guys seem like amateurs. But the district should've had someone looking out for their interest on such a large project, too.

so whats the point in continuing to bring up other school districts? they have absolutely no bearing on what Allen ISD does with its own money.

should Texas quit building shite because New Mexico is a hell hole and broke?

And it's a very fine high school. It's as good as a lot of private schools. That's just very hard for some on here to wrap their head around.

yup. South LA folks here can't fathom a public high school being great due to their demographics and poor public schools.

I went to LSU, I'm not from TX (live here now), but I don't get the penis envy shown by LA towards TX. It's juvenile and pathetic.

So... can they "fix" it, or will they have to tear out and rebuild the affected sections?

If the article is correct, I don't see how they can get around not stripping it down to it's foundation and starting over. There seems to be an issue with the concrete, and rebar. There's nothing you can do about that.

this is so not worth getting pissy over, but since you obviously didn't read my earlier post about the proposal to raise taxes in my ISD to supplement shortfalls in surrounding ISDs, that's what I'm referring to, it was an answer to an earlier question about why would anyone bitch about money being spent on a new stadium, not me bitching, although I voted aginst it, but an answer to the posters question, people had concerns that their tax $ were going to help fund projects like this, under the false pretenses

I can't see how anyone would vote for this.

Exactly, because it's stupid.

As others said, it doesn't change anything either. There was a proposal to give money to other districts that suck arse. Didn't go through. AKA still have no reason to fund those other districts, and their money problems are theirs alone.

Just clarify, this was "the" new football stadium that was all over national news maybe 2 years ago?

This was most likely related to the State "Robin Hood" Law. School districts are limited to spending only a certain amount per student. If they collect more than that from property taxes, it has to be transferred to a "poor" district. But the wealthy district does get to keep some of that overage.

Yes, unfortunately in these economic times there have been a shortfall of 60 million dollar high school stadiums, so this is the one.

This seems like a really, really stupid law.

i've worked on lump sum projects where inspections (soils testing, rebar, concrete cylinders, welding, etc.) were payed for by the Owner... we had no part in it (other than coordinating). although they were negotiated contracts, not hard bid projects like the one in question.

no doubt... and maybe the ISD did hire a consultant to act as a manager over the arch/eng/contractor... if they didn't, they should have.

Texas Constitution says the State has to provide equal education for all students. This includes an equal dollar amount spent on each student.

Allen ISD is top notch and they have the money to do what they want. They got the stadium and also a performing arts center built into the Allen High.
