Interesting read with a lot of truth, but overall too whiney.
His argument that resonated the most with me was the section on nepotism. I had a GPA a full point higher than a classmate a few years back (and a better resume). We both applied for the same internship, but his friend's dad was high up in the company. The socially awkward, dumb guy got the job. I'm still a little bitter but I got a job in the end so I don't care too much.

I hated my last job when we got a new GM. I made him fire me because I had a one year severance package with full benefits. Cocksucker offered me a different position or 6 months.
ETA: Didn't read the whole article, sounded like he thinks a degree intitles you, and cried instead of working hard and learning from experienced people he's working under.

It's a great article and the critical comments in this thread are laughable. The number of psychoses displayed are hard to keep up with.
Go read (all the way, even if it hurts your precious feelings) 6 Harsh Truths That Will Make You a Better Person.. Alex Baldwin is the GOAT and if you disagree, you know what you are.

So what's his point? Things aren't what he thought they would be? Life isn't fair? GTF over it. Nothing will change ( in the immediate future) so you might as well adapt and deal with it. Pissing and moaning about it in an editorial is useless. Focus on overcoming the obstacles and then you can change the situation.
Maybe he's trying to do that, but he seems to be going about it incorrectly.

The part that stuck out most for me was the unpaid hours. My first two years on campus I worked an unpaid internship. I worked hours upon hours per week for no salary.
All that tells me is that you don't value your time very much.

Three Ways Not to Get Screwed by the Job Market
1. Be book smart.
2. Be people smart.
3. Work hard.
Voila.
In fact, any two of these three will get you pretty far. Three out of three and you're set as long as you actually apply your strengths (but that's included in #3 IMO).

Why? Because he did what he felt he had to do to get a paid gig when no other options were available?

If he had to choose between an irrelevant paid job vs a relevant unpaid internship, then I think he made the right choice. Always go for what has the better return on investment, as long as you can survive. This is especially true when you are young.

1 way to avoid all of these: don't be a whiny hipster millennial with a degree in art history.

Self employed don't care
But seriously, though that article has a bit of truth to it, the thing comes off as bitter and whiny.

It can really be boiled down to: "A person is judged by his actions, not his words or his beliefs." And then there's a little psychology thrown in to take care of any readers who resist the writer's argument, turning their doubts into proof of what the writer is saying.
It's a good article for the intended target audience, which I think is young men without established careers. For others, the article is not useful or will come off as too condescending, IMO.

The author of that article is a self absorbed prick standing firmly behind a shield of false bravado and it is no better than the other swill he regularly puts out. He congratulates himself for telling you the "6 truths" (when in reality he just rewraps two bits of common sense knowledge) and then anyone who disagrees in any fashion is automatically "butthurt".
And before you say it I am about to leave for my job in which I am well rewarded for "producing" large reports.
