Oh, so it wasn't really built in 3 weeks.

Agreed.. I imagine there are numerous codes and inspections it would need to pass that would take much longer than 3 weeks.

I'm not interested in occupying a building whose claim to fame was how fast it was built.

Sure, why not?

Btw, how do they get those big arse cranes off the type on the structure is completed?

They are pretty liberal with the word built right. They put up the structure in three weeks, but no way they did the plumbing, electrical, etc.

Pretty cool, but I think built should mean finished.

Pre assembled modules. It took much longer than 3 weeks, but the assembly phase was complete in 3 weeks.

The story is misleading, it does not consider all the planning, the 4 months building the modules, the facilities that had to be built prior to the modules being fabricated (that type of facility its self probably took a year to construct) the site prep work that took place, etc.

In reality it was probably over 5 years to construct.

Tower cranes are Based on a tower crane concrete pad.... Typically 5+ feet in depth.....that sit in the center of the building foundation slab. Truck cranes are used up to about the 5th-8th floor.

A hydraulic lift is located at the base of the tower crane. Component vertical pieces are usually 8-10 feet tall. They assemble the crane up to the point where the truck mounted cranes become impractible to use. At that point, the boom is assembled and they start to use the tower crane.

As the building rises about a floor per 6-7 day cycle, the hydraulic system lifts the crane enough so as to fit another vertical segment at the base, thus, allowing it to increase in height with the building.

After the building is complete, the boom is disassembled at the top and the crane is brought down segment by segment using the hydraulic lift. It is lifted a few feet and the vertical segment is removed at the base. Keep doing that until it is gone.

They construct the building so as to leave room to remove the segments at the base.

It looks unstable to the naked eye.

Condo complex I'm moving into has 45 stories and took a year and a half to build. You couldn't pay me to get in this pictured building.
