The question is worded horribly but the answer to the pattern is 4.5 which you know... The other info in the question seems to be inconsequential to the actual pattern
That's what I was thinking too. Damn trick question for the youngsters.

Digit is positive integer from 0-9
Pattern calls for halving down
4.5 rounds up to digit 5

Yea that is a dumb question written by someone who does not understand math trying to teach math to kids who don't yet understand math.

I agree worded terribly... I got two Georgia Techies in the family and they are no help.

When do math become a game of 20 questions?
Posted on 9/25/14 at 8:53 pm to KosmoCramer
For real that is an entirely different question now.

I rounded up to 5 on the 10,000 spot because that shite made no sense otherwise.

It's stupid.
You can't have a decimal in the 10,000 place of a number. It cannot be 64.578.0000000

The question should have been presented like this... I had some bad info:
I am a five digit number
The digit in the ten thousands place is the next number in the pattern: 36, 18, 9, _____.
The digit in the thousands place is 2 less than the greatest factor of 8.
Seven times the digit in the hundreds place is 49. The digit in the tens place is the fourth multiple of 2. The digit in the one place is a prime number less than 3.
What number am I? ___ ___ , ___ ___ ___
How does that first part work with 4.5?

Ok, I change my zero answer to 4.5 and agree with rounding up to 5. But...
Wouldn't the greatest factor of 8 be 8, and then 8-2 be 6 in the 1,000 spot?

I assume they want you to round..which is part of the curriculum in 2/3 grade

Hmm, this could be right as well. If they want the literal next number in the sequence, it would be 4 (since the 4 is first in 4.5). And I am honestly unsure if you would consider 8 a factor of 8.

Yea, that's probably right.

8 x 1 = 8, if my 10 year old was here, he would know the answer.
