I'm honestly having a hard time beleiving 93,000lbs of just Mardi Gras beads was collected

To break it down, 93,000 lbs of beads equals 1,743,000 sightings of big, out-of-town titties on Bourbon Street.

$467 per catch basin doesn’t sound bad to me.

Beads are surprisingly dense and heavy. Many tons of unclaimed plastic are thrown on the street every year.

That's absurd. No wonder there's so much.

Real talk - I don’t recall the calculations 100% but they only have like 4 trucks and each basin takes a couple hours. So to do each basin 1 time with the current capacity was a many years long rotation, while the recommendation for maintaining them is stopping in multiple times per year

Isn't the success of Mardi Gras usually determined by the weight of the garbage collected?

True, i forget the formula but x number of pounds of garbage equals y number people

But this has nothing to do with that. This is shite that has been sutting around in the sewer system for z years.

Just for clarification, DPW is also to blame. Any pipe less than 30 inches falls within their responsibility. Anything 30 and over is SWB. Regardless, DPW and SWB have the same boss at the end of the day.

You’re laughing but I believe it was

For years, this city measured Carnival season success based on the tonnage of trash collected. However, the practice ended several years ago because the practice may discourage recycling and encourage littering.

They haven’t done that in years, and even when they used to say that it was not accurate. I’m laughing because I remember when they used to say that.

I took your laughing to mean it never happened. I remembered as a kid them reporting the tons of garbage inidicating a bigger or better Mardi Gras.

I remember it too, as I got older I also realized how ridiculous that was.

Why not just look up the hotel occupancy rate and tax dollars or even number of people arrested. That will give you an better indication of how successful Mardi Gras was.
