The payout to these families will be less than the cost to keep 4 people in jail for 60 years each after they inevitably ended up in jail for life.

Maybe, but how much more do these families propagate thanks to the FAFO lottery?

It's lose lose either way.

The trooper rammed the vehicle and used a PIT maneuver, causing the SUV to roll over and collide with a cement pole.

The pole position is usually established before the race.

Whether they ran or went to prison, they were getting the pole.

Good PIT IMO. You take your life in your own hands when not following the law.

They chose…..poorly.

No innocent people injured?

I'm good with it. Dumbasses stole a vehicle then proceeded to run from police at ~120mph, endangering everyone else on the roadway. frick em.

Would depend on a few parameters, I highly doubt they PIT the car at 100+ mph, but maybe they did.

FHP’s superintendent isn’t fricking around and has said multiple times he has faith in his people and their training and has a full on chase policy similar to GSP and ASP.

PIT maneuver seems completely justified. Not sure how anyone could think otherwise.

I’d have to know who exactly was in the car to make that assessment.

Not saying the PIT wasn’t the right thing to do, but it’s possible someone in that car got in thinking they were just getting a ride somewhere and absolutely didn’t sign up for a high speed chase in a car they had no idea was stolen.

By that logic, police would never take action if there were ever multiple people in the car. After all, the passenger may just hitching a ride.
