Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say
And if you do this it'll help you some sunny day

My oldest brother & I went to the show when they returned to Baton Rouge in 1991.
He actually had a ticket for the show that got cancelled 14 years prior and the dummy didn't keep the damn thing. I remembered they honored the 1977 tickets at the gate and set up backstage access for those who had one.

Day on the Green
Hadn't moved out to the Bay Area at that point but I caught 2 DOTG shows in 1982 and in 1983. Good times.

How the hell do you run out of fuel in a plane
LINK
quote:
Lynyrd Skynyrd were traveling from Greenville, S.C., to Baton Rouge, La., when their plane apparently ran out of fuel toward the end of the flight. The pilots attempted to land on a small air strip, but the bottom of the plane clipped some trees, and the aircraft went down in a remote stand of forest.

When they did the flight planning they loaded what should have been enough fuel for the length of the trip with adequate reserve based on the normal fuel consumption per hour for the plane. However, there was a problem with the engines running rich and consuming more fuel than normal, that was not factored into their calculation and they ran the tanks dry. Whether they had working fuel level gauges or not I don't know, but they might have ignored them anyway, thinking they were inaccurate, something not uncommon for planes that old.
