So it's going on these kids records that they were arrested? Like real arrested? I wouldn't be able to have my job if I were in college now.

I can't see too many potential employers really caring about an underage drinking charge if you've got a clean record otherwise. If a potential employee is disqualified due to underage drinking in college, its probably going to be a shitty company to work for anyway.

The cops are either paid to be there off duty to protect the area from actual police enforcement

Or the cops are there on duty and are willfully watching 16-19 year old kids plastered out of their minds on cheap booze and pills drive away without ever pulling them over

Neither is a good look for the BRPD

When getting a medical license you have to stand before the board if there are any arrests.

If its for underage drinking you are there for like 30 seconds, they laugh about it and your license is approved.

For most examples yes, but going through a government background check for security reasons will make you re-think this. A lot of regulated industries require FBI background reports.

The cops who sit in the median are on duty.

That's even worse than getting paid for off duty work then. They are willfully ignoring these kids driving away with a 2.0 BAC and loaded on Oxy, right in front of their face

Pretty sure they don't do that out of the kindness of their hearts and they their pockets are getting lined in some capacity outside of their check from BRPD

I don't think people in Sorrento should be casting stones about other people's police department.

Pretty sure that is entrapment

It's not entrapment, but they would need reasonable suspicion (depending on how the statute is written in Louisiana) that a crime is being committed.

You can't just willfully pull people over leaving a bar without being able to articulate reasonable suspicion prior to detention.

when I was younger my dad was a bar owner and caught the cops several times putting chalk marks on the tires in the parking lot and then siting down the road at the red light and pulling people over that had said chalk marks that passed.

How about 4 kids stumbling into a F-150 and almost clipping half the cars in the parking lot?

There is plenty of reasonable suspicion that can be had in that parking lot

And the BRPD is not against doing this in other areas as they follow cars coming out of the Bulldog and other Perkins area bars all the time. No less than 5 miles away minors are hammering down 40 Crowne Russe and red bulls and driving home.

Dude you sound mad. BRPD has plenty of DWI guys who are in the areas surrounding Tigerland and probably do get some updates from patrol officers to be on the lookout for specific cars leaving Tigerland. However, the main reason officers are there are to deter fights, muggings, robberies etc. not to get tied up on a misdemeanor DWI which takes hours to conduct a proper investigation due to all the legal loopholes and MADD legislation passed. Also, those officers also are assigned to 2nd District and have to be available to leave at a moment's notice to go handle a shooting, traffic homicide or other serious crimes. Stop being an idiot, you have no idea how police work.

Isnt there also a special training/certification for cops to be able to handle DUIs? Can every officer conduct a DUI investigation?
