Yea. What the hell is your point. I'm sure half of them would love to trade places with some soft middle aged guy with a plush office job. Half of them don't even agree with the war, but you're right, they signed up and they have to deal with it. My point is, it's easy to support the war, no matter how futile an effort it is, when you're safely sitting behind your computer screen in the US.

Whatever you say, buddy. I'm against the war in Afghanistan. I never served. You're the one preaching how necessary this war is from your leather computer chair while having never served.

you are a real piece of work arent you, you little shite. People serve so friends, family and strangers can have the freedom to do exactly what he is doing. You need to grow the frick up.

We will leave Afghanistan entirely and the Taliban will take over shortly thereafter. Probably join forces with ISIS in a common cause against the US. Back to square one.

The Taliban and ISIS would try to kill each other. This is above your pay grade man.

Why are you so certain that they'd try to kill each other? They both want to form Islamic States and the both hate the Shia, seems like they might get along...

True .... but there is no reason for him to die. DUMDASS!!

He's in a war zone. People die there. Not sure what you mean by that. War is a never ending cycle with no real winners. Violence just gives rise to more violence. It cannot be surprising when someone who wages war for a living ends up dying in that very war.

Army Times: Victim of insider attack identified as Maj. Gen. Harold Greene

quote:

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN — A U.S. official has identified the senior officer killed in Afghanistan Tuesday as Maj. Gen. Harold Greene, the highest-ranking American officer killed in combat since 1970.

Greene was the deputy commanding general, Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan. An engineer by training, Greene was involved in preparing Afghan forces for the time when U.S.-coalition troops leave at the end of this year.

Greene was killed Tuesday in one of the bloodiest insider attacks of the long Afghanistan war when a gunman dressed as an Afghan soldier turned on allied troops, wounding about 15 U.S. and coalition forces. They included a German general and two Afghan generals.

Just to update the OP and identify the individual.

God bless. It's really a shame that our other brothers and allies were attacked (once again) when they assumed they were among friendlies.

I don't know if the a-hole who carried out the assault was a plant or just a PoS disgruntled ANSF, but that is no way for this General to end his life.

Lots of anger in this thread
I never joined the military but I'm completely against war unless our homeland is under attack. I was for attacking Al Queda, but didn't give a rats arse about attacking the Taliban. I hated we went to iraq. Honestly, I think if we pulled all our troops out of the Middle East 50 years ago, 9/11 and all the hatred towards us probably wouldn't have happened. I would love to see 50-75% of the military that's out of the country pulled back in, save that money and use it for wounded veterans and such, improve the VA.

They reported on the evening news that Greene was trained and an engineer and had earned 3 Masters degrees and a PhD.

This board hates the frick out of some cops and soldiers.

I feel for this guy and his family. RIP. No matter how you feel about the war, these people served their country. I wish we, as a nation, would have learned after Vietnam how wrong we were to blame the soldiers coming back home. They did their job. It sickens me to see how many were treated.

I have absolutely nothing against our service men and women. I'm sure this General was a decent good man. I also feel for his family and children.

I guess I didn't get that from you from this post:

I don't have a problem with his post. It's true. That doesn't make his death any less tragic for his loved ones or his sacrifice for this country any less great.
