My father's brother-in-law was part owner of the lake charles ice pirates.

I was at the kingfish game where the entire two teams were fighting at once. Even the opposing goalies met at center ice and went after it.

The ECHL used to be the prototypical "I went to a fight and a hockey match broke out" league.
I went to one match where there was a fight for every goal scored. The final ended up being 9 to 5. The Ice Gators were losing badly and at some point they just started merking dudes because playing hockey clearly wasn't working for them. By the end of the match 2 or 3 dudes were ejected with match penalties. A match penalty is imposed for deliberately injuring another player as well as attempting to injure another player. A bunch more were ejected with game misconducts.
At one point, there was one of the Ice Gators sitting out five for fighting. The penalty ticked off and the penalty timekeeper opened the door. The dude in the box didn't leave immediately because the other team was carrying the puck up the boards on the penalty box side of the rink. When they got close, he put one skate on the ice, left one in the box for leverage and threw an elbow into the nearest opponent, thus earning himself a match penalty.

I remember all the baws in Lafayette used to have big tailgates and pack in the Cajundome for the Icegators games just for the chance they could see something like that.

Mudbugs games are awesome because of this.... When they came back to Shreveport they came back as a league that is basically a developmental league for high school aged kids that are basically the future of the game.... as a result you have a bunch of pissed off teenagers just waiting to overreact at take some swings

I was at this game! It was my first hockey game I ever went to. It wasn't the last, but the rest pales in comparison to this game.

You weren't fully living life if you lived in Lafayette during that time and didn't attend an Ice Gator fight.
