I'm just talking of cops leaving the mom to walk home. That part doesn't make sense
I'm thinking if the accident happened very close to their house (which it sounds like it did), she may have just walked the hundred feet or so home. She might have had other kids (or family members) at home she wanted to bring to the hospital with her?

Article says the girl's name hasn't been released pending notification of next of kin. Makes no sense that her mother was present.

But even then mom wouldn't have ridden to hospital? I mean even if pronounced dead and all?

The ambulance does not pick up dead people. If person is pronounced the body is picked up by a funeral home.

They're terrible words and I wish they never had to be written. It's the most unnatural thing imaginable. Our very core screams out against it.

Somehow I have been able to block those times out. HOWEVER I have not been able to block out the deaths of those children. I remember every other detail.

I'm not making this about me. Every person that has had to deal with the deaths of the young can identify. Parents of those lost children identify on a entirely different level.

Well then, people are blasting the Port Vincent/French Settlement police departments for the mom walking home. Yet if her daughter was in the ambulance wouldn't she have been in the ambulance as well? Therefore she may not have been the one walking and that is just a rumor.

I usually wait a while before getting down on anyone due to rumors and lack of understanding of procedures. It is highly unlikely any department would leave an immediate family member alone.

Lotsa rumors so far but I can't even find out the girls name.

A lady I work with knows them or something. Said the girl was running away from her bf and ran out into the street...and then... I don't have a name, though.

Mother walked to the scene. Was not driving either vehicle.

That's not what's going around the school in French Settlement. Teachers are saying that the mom hit her in a Jeep after the Durango. If that's not the case, they shouldn't be spreading those kind of rumors.

This type of accident happened this week in the Montgomery area. A two year old girl went out of her house to greet her father since he was coming home from work. The daddy didn't see his child and ran over her. She was in critical condition at the hospital for a few days. Unfortunately, the child died yesterday. I can't imagine how a parent feels after an incident like this happens.

From the comments quote:I ended up coming along this accident on my way home last night. It was very heartbreaking to hear the mother screaming for God to give her baby back. But what really upset me, was how not one officer gave the grief stricken mother a very short ride back to her home. Instead, the mother was stumbling in weakness and disbelief of losing her daughter while screaming walking on Hwy 16 back to her home for all to see. She should have never been put on parade like that for anyone to witness. I wish I knew what department to call and voice my opinion to but, both Port Vincent and French Settlement has units out there, along with the first responders.

Not trying to be a dick, but why didn't this person give a ride?

I wasn't trying to start any rumors, just reposting a sad comment I saw.

Anyway, this thread has been full of rumors, including what the OP posted.

I deleted the quoted comment so people wouldn't take it seriously.

And that's the truth.

I passed by where this happened today and made note of the closest mailbox address. When I got home I looked up her mother's address. Mom wouldn't have needed a ride home because she lives right there.

But there is more. Her obit says she was pronounced dead at the hospital. That means she was transported by ambulance. Acadian Ambulance covers that area and they allow one person to ride along. I would fully expect mom to have ridden along OR to have someone drive her to the hospital immediately.

Now I'm going to take this even further. That is a state highway so State Troopers would be there and for a long time after the young lady was transported. Lotsa pictures, measurements, information on both vehicles involved as well as the young lady. It takes a long time. French Settlement police would be there. Probably Livingston Parish unit(s) and Port Vincent could have been there for assistance. Another agency at the scene would be the French Settlement V.F.D.

There is a lot of reports that has to be filled out by most of these departments. They are there long after people are transported.

My point? No one and I mean NO ONE that is visibly distraught, especially close kin, would be left alone to walk some distance by themselves. At least one of those cops would have had the time to see to it mom was taken care of.

My field of expertise was in the fire Dept. though. Any kinfolk and friends were taken care of as soon as the needs of the injured or dead were tended to. I have been accused of being a cold hearted sob but even I would have gotten mom a ride and connected with people that could look after her safety and well being.

All this being said, I'm calling B.S. on the rumors and supposed eye witness.

While looking into this I learned that she is a distant relative of my wife.

Yeah very sad for the community. I heard her and her mom were arguing about her grades and she stormed out the house and her mom got in the car to go find her soon after. Well the car in front of her mom hit her and she flipped over that car and her mom then hit her from what I heard. This happened the same day a 20 year old boy from French Settlement wrecked and passed away. Sad day for a small community.
