Probably one of the darkest days in American history. We would be Kings and shite if the North and the tyrant Lincoln didn’t oppress us!

I'd have settled for a barony.

Great write up as usual. My favorites of the action were Lincoln’s reply to intercepting Sheridan’s dispatch that “if the thing were pressed they could compel Lee to surrender” Lincoln would tell Grant “Let the thing be pressed”.

And Lee seeing his battered army pour in from Saylors Creek “My God, has the army dissolved”.

No kidding. I wish the South had never had slavery, just like the North.

Of the original 13 colonies, only 2 wanted to keep slavery. Virginia and NC were okay with outlawing it.

No

Lincoln built the Federal State that’s strangling us now.

The Confederate constitution is interesting, because it was designed to hobble state power, and preserve individual freedom in revolutionary ways.

The vision died with the Confederacy.

Never looked at it like that. Would be worth a deep dive...

Did the North potentially look at war as a war to stop such a constitution? it is true we were a more free peoples before the war.

I wonder if part of the North wanted nothing more than to suppress the idea of freedom expanding to push their power hold on the populace.

Damn... Maybe I've had to much to drink tonight but this would be a solid angle to flesh out..

The audacity of a random message board poster to call someone a loser when said person: distinguished himself in the Mexican American War, served as superintendent of the United States Military Academy, held off an opposing army with far more men and far better resources for over 3 years and became President of prominent Virginia university after the war.

As bad as slavery was Lee knew the North would end up treating blacks even worse than slaves, unfortunately he lost and now blacks are still being treated badly up north 156 years later
