Most definitely. Angelfire too. Yahoo! should also be higher on the list. Maybe not today, but it was one of the first popular search engines in the mid 90's, introduced an entire generation to chat rooms, was responsible for Chris Hansen becoming a household name, etc.

Surprised CNN isn't on there coming from NYT

This was published by Time Magazine, not the New York Times. Time magazine was owned by Time Warner, which also owns Turner Broadcasting which owns CNN, until 2014. Maybe they don’t like their former parent company anymore

I agree my space should be on there, but, for me, aol (although not a “website”) was really the first major catalyst; instant messaging, profiles, chat rooms, etc.

AOL should be on there with an asterisk, since it’s not a website.

AIM is what you should be targeting.

AIM / MSN / ICQ can probably be grouped together.

For a good 10 years if not more, pretty much all news stations got their leads from drudge.

Number 4 wouldn't be there if not for Myspace

Number 14 wouldn't be on there if not for Digg

Number 1 wouldn't be on there if not for Yahoo, alta Vista, et al

List is shite when you don't include the websites that were most influential on the websites listed.

now that I think about it, AOL needs to be #1 (with an asterisk, since it's not a website). before aol, there was the internet, but only in it's infancy. it was AOL that got people hooked on going online, checking their email, going into chat rooms and then instant messaging others. for better or worse, they were the first big player in social networking, and started us down the path to where we are today.

Netflix?
Made the transition from picking up DVDs to USPS to online streaming, all at a reasonable cost for their services.

Agreed but one could say you did have to go to napster.com. that's splitting hairs though
