The disdain and hate for people who actually work for a living is appalling and puzzling.

Why?

If you were jumping on people who can work (and who have jobs available to them) but don't (to receive government money), I would join in your disdain.

But why bash on people who work?

You are elitist if you do so.

So they'll just go on welfare and collect your taxes.

It's not. It's about people that want to work menial, low end, low demand jobs, then get a 50% raise, making EVERYONE ELSE who has worked hard to get where they are worth less.

What happens when you've been working for years to get to, say, 19$ an hour.

Now some Booger-eating halfwit with no drive is gonna come in making almost as much as you with no effort? Are they gonna give you a 50% raise?

frick no!

You know what happens? The cost of goods goes up higher than any raise you'd get, so you'll effectively lose buying power relative to the slackers.

The fast food workers on-site will break it if isn't.

Other wages would go up and it is a FACT that this would not drive up inflation.

Then, why stop at $15/hour. That's pretty low - $30k a year or so.

Why not make it $50 so everyone can enjoy an affluent lifestyle?

What's the downside if you're so convinced that it would not rob skilled labor of the value of their hard work getting educated and skilled and would not drive inflation?

Make it $100/hour. $250/hour. $1,000/hour. And the latte will still only cost $6 or whatever.

You know what would really raise wages for the poor?

Killing off a bunch of poor people.

Supply and demand

A 21st century Black Plague, if you will.

That actually was a major factor in getting the Renaissance going - fewer poors, wages rose, poors could demand more and more freedom.

Minimum wage service workers are some of the few people that the lower middle class here can look down upon. Most of the people that are ugliest to the poor are only 1 paycheck removed from having to work at a McDonald's anyway.

I would highly suggest you take some basic Economic classes and learn about factors that affect shifts in the Demand Curve, both Direct & Indirect.

Minimum hasn't kept up with inflation. I agree with Robert Reich and Tim Robbins: a REASONABLE minimum wage increase (to $15) is long overdue.

bullshite. Most folks worked at minimum wage as teenagers, students, etc. Most folks aspire to more than that. There is a combination of factors in this push for $15 - the first is unions. Unions rarely have anything at minimum wage, so why do they care? They care because many of their contracts are pegged to the minimum wage, so if it goes up, their rates go up.

Second is pure and simple class warfare. They want to pit the proletariat against the bourgeoisie - that's Marxism 101.

It isn't any more complicated than that. There is no argument that burger flippers and other minimum wage workers are worth $15 - many aren't worth what they're making now, and only make that much because the law prohibits less. The economy would be better served by no minimum wage than a higher one than we have right now.
