At the torture museum in Rothenburg they have some torture devices that you'd never imagine. Some seemed more efficient than others.
Went there when I was in Germany. Pretty cool place. They also had a Christmas museum. I think they loved their museums

Sez history.
There are no recorded usages of the Iron Maiden before the 1800s.
The Pear is pure conjecture based on what a couple of thieves were doing.
Sadam Huessien did actually use the Iron Maiden to punish his enemies :/

all of the ones on the list typically resulted in death, minus the pear of anguish.

iron maiden is BS. No evidence it was ever used and only got famous because of one specimen that was in a museum, at a time when a lot of torture devices were made up to get the crowds in, ala PT Barnum and his sideshows.

for this reason, I have trouble believing a lot of torture devices and their true authenticity.

The iron maiden is often associated with the Middle Ages.[1] However, no account has been found earlier than 1793, although medieval torture devices were catalogued and reproduced during the 19th century.
Wolfgang Schild, a professor of criminal law, criminal law history, and philosophy of law at the University of Bielefeld, has argued that supposed iron maidens were pieced together from artifacts found in museums to create spectacular objects intended for (commercial) exhibition.[2]

It's all good, I was just trying to be funny about it.

The victim was put into a hollow bull made of brass and a fire was lit underneath. The metal would become extremely hot and the victim would literally roast to death

Plus the iron maiden would take a lot of effort to make for a medieval blacksmith. Hanging, beheading, disemboweling are so convenient
