The kid obviously has mental issues, and combining that with the age, I seriously doubt would pass any sort of fitness assessment.

That isn't enough.

Do you really think an eleven year old is capable of understanding the breadth of what they did and the charges against them?

Unfortunately, I have no faith in our system to monitor this young girl if she was to be set free at 18.

after the beating, the child brought the baby back downstairs and had enough capacity to wake her mother up in the middle of the night

that shows me that she understood that it went too far

Unfortunately I agree with this assessment. That being said, I doubt this kid would ever see a day outside of a mental institution, and I don't think they should.

That isn't enough to be fit to go to trial. Do you think a 5th grader, and one as mentally unstable as this, understands what a verdict is? What a jury is responsible for, how a judge is supposed to act during a trial? How would a lawyer begin to explain different situations and tactics to an 11 year old?

Don't misconstrue my opinion that this kid should be allowed to be integrated back into society. There are obviously massive issues there.

This story is fricked up, but this

I am not discussing fit for trial

I am discussing mental capacity to knowingly commit such a crime

her timeline go a ways towards displaying that she understood both her actions and the severity of those actions

Maybe? I honestly don't know. If you're talking about a true Bundy style sociopath, at that age are they capable of processing what they did is one of the most horrible things on the planet? I doubt it, they just know it's "wrong".

I appreciate the back and forth, but I think we might still be going to the same place.

this is a horrible act. Hurting a child, even if by another child, is a situation where rehabilitation is likely not an option.

when someone is a danger to those that can least defend themselves, that person cannot be trusted within the constraints of society, regardless of age or mental capacity.

Burned to death or firing squad? Take your pic. How does an 11 get this fricked up in the head anyway?

you have got to be some kind of fricked up to be imagining ways to execute a fricking 11 year old girl. that's just sick.

Chief Ice says he's never seen anything this disturbing in his 30-year career. The department is also considering counseling for the officers who responded to the scene.

This portion of the article got to me.

I can't even imagine what was going through the minds of first-responders when they arrived.

I would not disagree with that notion.
