I filled up last night at a station that has pure gas and not any of that 10% ethanol crap, and holy shite, I'm getting 7 miles a gallon more than on the 10% ethanol gas(would probably be more than that but I turned off the multiple displacement system aka 4 cylinder mode). . Are their any effects to using pure gas long term?

Of course, then you can't save the planet

Yeah, you get better mileage and the ethanol doesn't corrode the inside of your fuel system. Ethanol absorbs more moisture than pure gas and has less energy by volume.

Use it when you can get it. No harm at all. In fact, it is better for your car.

What the guy above me said- ethanol has less BTUs by volume than gasoline, so the lower the ethanol content- or none at all- increases the vehicle's mileage as you have seen.

In Brazil, where gas is a 25% blend, and ethanol (alcool) is available at 100% levels, the Brazilan consumer can typically calculate in their head instantly the cost/benefit analysis of the lower priced ethanol, but the generally regarded 30% reduction in fuel mileage they will get. In other words, alcool needs to be at least 30% cheaper than gas for them to buy.

You car is fine- the ethanol mandate only came around in this country because the environmental lobby pushed to get MTBE additives out of gasoline and ethanol was the only viable substitute as I recall.

fricking ethanol is the biggest con job ever.

Burning food for shitty fuel. Made the price of umpteen other food goods from meat to meal go up in price.

frick big corn.

Ethanol is 100% bullshite. Pure gas is much, much better for your engine. By the way, the benevolent all powerful federal government is about to make it mandatory that all gas be a minimum of 15% E85. THANKS OBAMA.

I think the 7mpg claim is not legit. Can anyone really claim that ethanol is destroying their engines? I doubt it. Most engine problems I believe are from neglectful owners not doing basic maintenance on boats and cars. And with boats most problems are lack of use and not ethanol.

Having lived in Iowa for a few years, I can tell you those farmers up there are living high on the hog.

Studies have even shown that the ethanol actually produces MORE pollution than pure gas. It is 10000% purely about corn growers greasing government pockets.

The whole thing is so thinly veiled it's insulting.

He is full of shite about 7 more mpg.

Ethanol is much harder on smaller engines like generators, lawnmowers, etc.

While what you said is true to an extent, ethanol has been proven to cause issues in most engines built before the early 90's. I know in boat motors and small engines specifically it'll erode gaskets.

i make this same trip every other weekend(about 600 miles one way). My car is a challenger RT with a 392 cam. I normally get 18 mpg on the highway. Fill up in Jackson and have to fill up again in Blytheville, AR and gas light is back on by Fenton, MO. This time, I filled up in Jackson, MS and I'm now in Sikeston, MO and still have a 1/4 tank, car is reading 26.3. Same driving habits(cruise set at 75) and I have a car full of stuff as I'm moving so I'm actually a lot heavier than I normally would be.
