Who's the better football fan? These "alumni" or the die hard Illini fan that grew up in Chicago?

As long as they stick around and contribute to the economy after graduation. Let's face it, the shortage of native STEM geared individuals in the USA is staggering.

Not as many as in previous decades.

This is a goldmine for American universities: high achieving students paying full tuition.
In the last 20 years, higher ed has flipped from
70/30 state/student funding model to a 30 percent state/70 percent student model. Universities get blamed for the subsequent high debt load. Strategies such as this are used to combat it.

They won't.

Yep. They're still people, and people who can help stimulate our own economy. We have the greatest universities in the world, so why not share them?

The problem is that a lot of them are not staying anymore. Countries like China and India now offer opportunities for these graduates that they did not offer 10, 20, 30 years ago. I'm not saying this is a bad thing per se.

I will agree with the English statement to an extent though. There is nothing worse than those who stay in academia (as professors or even TA's) and are not comprehensible.

Actually I talked to many of them and they ALL want to stay SO bad. China is a shithole for the most part. They only go back if they can't find a job here and that's the case for majority of students.

It's a tough job market right now in the US and it's even tougher for foreign students to find companies that are willing to hire foreigners with work visa sponsoring.

Yeah, a lot of Asian students want to stay but once their visa or green card is up, they have to leave. Companies don't want to pony up the cash to keep these graduates in the country either. It kind of hurts everyone except the original country the student is from.

On a macro level, it is good as more Chinese and other foreign students are exposed to, and influenced by, American culture and democratic values.
At the micro level, all these full pay international students are raising admission standards to unheard of levels at our nation's top universities, and making it much harder for my children to get into good colleges.

Good. It will make our kids have to work harder to get in. Besides, there will always be a spot at some good college for a someone with good extracurriculars, a solid GPA, and a 30 ACT.

More than half in my class were from China

Chinese and Indian students are big targets for UK universities as they pay up front and they have money coming out of their asses.
