He's lanky for a guard. And you don't move a solid/improving LT to guard unless you think Peat can be a great LT.

The best five players will be on the field. They'll make it work somehow.

LT to RT is a MUCH easier transition than LT to guard.

I don't think terron has the size nor is the mauling type RT

I would like to see the metrics/advanced stats of guys running off LT, but Armstead seemed like a better run blocker than pass blocker to me (not that he was bad at pass blocking).

He is insanely athletic, though, so I can see him pulling to the outside from guard as well as anyone (which we have done often with our guards).

If terron doesn't make another big leap this year I hope peat can be better

guys running off LT

According to PFF..

And Armstead graded out positive in both the run and pass, but was a bit better as a run blocker

Armstead had a good season as a first time full starting LT. His potential is through the roof. I don't see us moving him unless he regresses.

Thanks. That tells me
a) he can probably be a good RT
b) he shouldn't be moved from LT unless Peat can dominate at the position. There's no way to know that unless Armstead gets hurt and Peat kicks arse while TA is out

Yep...

Plus, IMO we are just beginning to get into Armsteads potential. He's got a boatload of ability and talent, he should continue to get better and better.

Which makes the pick more disappointing. Strief has at least two good years left, and again, RT's simply aren't THAT valuable.

True

It sucks that my least favorite pick in the draft was the 13th overall pick

Pretty much love our other picks.

I remember the good old days when Strief played Guard for us. Those were some of our best OL's ever.

That's exactly how I feel. If we could pull off a Strief for a 3rd or 4th round pick + an adequate backup OT, I would feel a lot better.

Fun story: I was drunkenly walking through Lucy's one night. I'm neither small nor huge (5'10, ~210). I was pervertedly staring at some hottie while walking and slammed into a wooden post. I looked at the post that I'd walked into and it was Strief himself. He seriously didn't even notice that I knocked into him. And not in the "Oh, someone just walked into me pretty hard, but I'll ignore them" way, but rather the "Wait, someone actually touched me?" type.

He's supposedly a great guy and is pretty acclimated with the community. It will be a sad day when he retires/is traded.

Yea same here... And we have no idea what the future holds for anyone, but as of now the pick sucks

And I don't mind that we addressed the OL, I just wasn't too high on Peat. Mainly due to the fact that he's not that versatile and is 1 of the "true" OTs in the draft. Which is great if you need an OT and not an interior OL, but that wasn't us.

That's not realistic IMO

He dates my roommate's cousin. I met him once, he's an extremely nice dude.

Depends. If I needed a RT and was a metrics-based coach, Strief has been a stud at the position for the past 3 or 4 years. OL also have some of the longest productive careers out of any position. They're not RBs/WRs that fall off hardcore in their early 30's. My trade is a bit optimistic, but an outright 4th or a 5th/6th + adequate backup OT isn't crazy. The team taking him on would only be paying $2.1m, $3.5m, $3.9m over the next 3 seasons. That's easily worth it for a top 5-10 RT. Looking into his contract, though, it makes it easy for us to cut/trade him.
