Clearly, Cooks and Stills are entrenched as 2 of our 3 WR starters in our 3 WR sets. But, Colston has to be done, right? His skill set is really no different than a TE...except he's not as big as TE. And, probably not as fast anymore either.

We need a new "big" receiver. Is it Nick Toon? I just can't think that it is...if he was "that" guy, he would have played more to date.

I would LOVE to get a guy like Michael Crabtree (UFA)...good teammate by all accounts. 6'1, 215. What about a guy like Greg Little (UFA)? He has never panned out in Cincy...came into the league with a ton of upside. At 6'3", 225, he's the perfect size for what we need. Does he have the skillset but has lacked the QB to date?

The only way Colston is gone is if there is not a restructure of his contract. Which I doubt will happen. While he has slowed he still seems to be valued by Brees so...he stays.
We can't dump all the leaders on the team. JG gonna lead the recv corp?

And I do agree we need a vet FA WR to come in. I could see a reduced role for MC next year depending on the young guys stepping up.

Colston will be good-serviceable for probably another 4-5 years honestly with the way he plays the game. Just need to keep young talent around him like Cooks, Stills, and hopefully Toon and he can still be a key contributor.

I'd be surprised if we get rid of Colston. He isn't a #1 WR anymore ...so he needs to make less money, but he still has great size and he knows how to get open against the zone. I also have a feeling that this might be his worst year ever in terms of dropping passes. I don't see that continuing in the future.

Both are terrible. We need a true #1 WR with size and speed.

Colston just needs to become the third option or 4th if you include Graham. He's still valuable though. I think he could be good for 700-800 yards each season for a few more years. I'd love to see him retire as a Saint too. He's everything you could want on your team; humble, competitive, and an all around likable guy that came out of nowhere and was a big part of making the Saints relevant after years of mediocrity and being irrelevant.

We might as well keep Colston around while we try to get Toon to be that #1.

my soul will die a little bit if Colston is cut. Therefore, because you suggested it i gave you a downvote.

Needs 892 yards for 10,000 and 3 tds for 70

Colston must be the only saint ever, to get a pass, when shite hits the fan. That being said, he's an awesome saints player. Top 4 ever, in my book.

Brees is the best saint ever, and gets shite on constantly.

I think he's gone...the only way he's not gone is if they restructure him. And, they really cannot do that without really hurting us next year. We already restructured him which created a big dead money hit this year...cannot carry over an even bigger dead money hit on a guy that has been declining for years.

The release of Colston, who has a $9.7 million ’15 cap hit and $5.4 million of post-2014 dead money attached to his deal, would save the Saints $4.3 million against the 2015 salary cap. That 4.3 million cannot be ignored given the challenges Mickey already will be dealing with.

Although he may not be the vocal leader in the lockerrom, I feel as if his presence alone helps the WRs on the roster. He's capable of teaching the younger players and helping them develop into really good route runners.

Him and Pierre are needed in this offense whether they're starters or not.

His body is breaking down, he's getting up there in age (31), but in this offense he still has his place. I just don't know why he's been dropping/fumbling so much this year

2015: 9.7mil cap hit (5.4mil dead; 4.3mil savings); 32 years old
2016: 10.5mil cap hit (2.7mil dead; 7.8mil savings); 33 years old

The nice part of this is that he has a 6.9 and a 7.7mil base salary. If he's willing to take a paycut or if we extend him 1 year at something like 5mil, we can ease up about 2mil of cap space in 2015 and 2016. Slap on the savings onto 2017. 34 years old and his career is done? Maybe.

Cutting him this offseason doesn't free much up and is it worth it to cut him just to save 4.3mil? Still Brees security blanket and if we can have Graham, Colston, Toon, Stills, and Cooks co-exist as TE/WR I don't see why not. Cooks, Stills, and Toon all have the speed that they can be deep threats so no need to re-sign Meachem/Morgan as opposed to getting a better OL/OG/C situation.

Crabtree has had to catch passes from Alex Smith and Kaepernick, to be fair. He is an afterthought in that offense. Drew Brees could put him in the pro bowl every year.

Greg Little blows

I know people on here shat on Kenny Britt when he was brought up as a possible FA acquisition, but he has flashed this season and stayed healthy. 3rd in the NFL in average yards per reception playing with crappy STL QBs. Could be a cheap option as a deep ball threat- big WR, too

Love Colston for the reasons you mentioned, but this year has been awful and a continuation from last year. He's not going to get better. He owns a football team now, so maybe he's not into it anymore. The drops and fumbles have been absolute drive and in some cases, game killers. If he stays, he has to take a big cut and he needs to be #3 behind Cooks and Stills.

He was not great last year, so a continuation of playing poorly which is now awful.

I have no idea what his status will be, whether it is in the draft or supplemental draft but Dorial-Green Beckham would be a dream come true. However, he's apparently a thug and moron, so not sure if he's turned his act around yet or not.
