One voice in the radio (NOT the one "supposed" to be Steve) says "I don't want to play" ... someone seems to have known that it wasn't right ...

And it looks like it's people from all over commenting on their FB page ... not just Louisiana.

I am glad the guys got fired, but I feel for their families if they have them. How would you like it if one disgusting and cruel comment causes you to be poor the rest of your life because your husband/father can never get work again?

1. It wasn't one comment.
2. I couldn't say one thing they did at work and keep my job. Neither could most the posters here.

I would think it was no big deal if the bit was actually funny, I mean you can make fun of people with disabilities and have it actually be funny, even though it's rather mean.

However this was not only mean but it was completely devoid of humor at all, I didn't even crack a smile, it's like not even close to funny.

That's something that Fox and co. don't understand. It's not the fact that they used Gleason as a comedy bit, it's because it was done in such poor taste that it wasn't entertaining or funny, it was just stupid degradation.

When you're in the public eye, such as a radio host, and your bills are paid by sponsors who choose to share that public eye with you and stand by your product, your product can't be detractive to an audience.

To me this is a great example of what happens when the market speaks for itself. Not that their ratings were of a great consequence (they were horrible anyway), but they are paid money to put on an entertaining sports radio show. Plenty of other jockeys do just fine without having to resort to such idiocy.

Fox and co. are right in the legal sense, but not in a business sense or moral sense....or common sense for that matter. If you want to keep your public job, make sure you know how to do good business with your clients. 790 obviously was desperate for an audience, to try anything. Well, like it or not they've got the publicity for it. Will be interesting to see what happens now.

The dismissal, despite the circumstances, came as "a relief, really," Cellini said. "That station is a sinking ship."

steakshapiro @steakshapiro

I love the people and city of New Orleans, always have, always will, @team_gleason I will work tirelessly to make this up to you....

but South Park would have been cancelled 100 times over by now if held to this standard.

South Park isn't an ESPN affiliate, not held to the same standards, is not a sports show, isn't on the radio, is actually funny, and....wait for it,

SOUTH PARK DOESN'T TOUCH THAT shite.

Would you like proof? This is the worst that South Park has to offer on ALS for your "boundary pushing":

LINK

Guess what? South Park has received hate mail just like a lot of other programs, but never enough to get those guys fired because the majority of people agreed that they were good enough to keep them on the air. The majority of public opinion, however, deemed that the 790 idiots (and almost all of their radio peers) not suitable for radio after royally fricking up on the radio.

Poor Fox. If you suck at your job, you'll get fired too. Until then, gee, try not go onto a publicly aired media outlet and do your best "dying before Thursday" Gleason mockery.

*sigh*

How is this not boring the shite out of everyone already?

1. There was an uproar
2. They apologized to the Gleasons and the Gleasons, being the honorable family they are, accepted the apology.
3. They got fired
4. Fin

And apparently does not understand the connection between Steve Gleason and the people of New Orleans.

But they don't even still have their jobs. What else should be said or expected. Hell you aren't even friends, family or anything to the Gleason's and they accepted the apology, why would you feel the need to carry the torch of discontent? Didn't everything you wanted to happen already happen?

I will say, though, that the radio bit has to be one of the dumbest ideas in recent broadcast history. In fact, my first thought was that these clowns knew they would get canned.

I really think it was more being total dumbasses anyway. Doing something this stupid on purpose to get fired will affect their future job search etc. It is way too much of a public outrage to think it would be a good way to go out. There are a lot less destructive ways to get fired.

You would think so. I tell you, though, I've known a few "on air" radio personalities and they can be some of the dimmest bulbs in the chandelier.
